Wow, me starting a thread, and I never thought it would be for this episode. It's not one that sings to me, but I did a blind grab of the DVDs before I hit the treadmill today and this is the one I chose.

I thought the snippet of dialogue among B/A and a gambling expert who knew Bobby's father was worth mentioning. This isn't verbatim, but it goes something like:

Betting Expert: Are you the one he brought to (his father's) funeral? If I didn't tell you then, you're lovely.

(Alex looking embarrassed in a lovely way.)

Bobby: (Never looking up from notes) I didn't bring anyone to the funeral.

** end snippet **

Alex looks a little discombobulated for the remainder of the conversation with the expert, and it struck me that Bobby thought it was just as important for her to know he went to the funeral solo as it was to clarify this with expert.

Thinking like an editor, I found this whole piece of dialogue to be unnecessary. It did nothing to advance the plot. So there must be some reason for it ...

This is one of my favorite "early ship" scenes.

When the older man tells Eames, "You are very lovely," Bobby acts so flustered - it's so obvious he agrees but is still trying to hide those feelings from Eames.

It reminds me a lot of the scene with Frank in Brother's Keeper - people who have known Bobby for a long time seem to pick up right away on his feelings for her and he acts so guilty at being found out.

I could have sworn he said he brought [insert female name] some rando to the funeral.... :/

You got me curious, so I watched it again. Closed captioned definitely says, "I didn't bring anyone" (or maybe "anybody" ... feeble brain didn't retain that). He also says that, although it is in a muffled, sort-of-annoyed way.

The lighting in that scene is so flattering to both principals. It reminds me of the lighting in the "Albatross" bar scene. That didn't happen by accident, either.

Wow Sue! Exercising, listening to music and reading captions at the same time?! Talk about multitasking (Skittles says admiringly)! With my ADD, my head would explode!

I had to dig out my season 2s and watch this again! I agree, he did say "I didn't take anyone to the funeral" and seemed very annoyed. Also agree it must have had a shippy purpose. In the scene immediatly before the bar scene, Goren and Eames are walking and discussing the case and at one point he says something like come on (planning to meet the guy at the bar) and he steps forward, then steps back a little and touches Eames, like on the back and shoulder, like "come with me" . I remembered that someone had mentioned this before because touches were so rare between them, especially early in the series. And yes, you have to put on your shippy glasses and squint, but it is a touch :D .

Another one of my "I read this somewhere but don't remember where" items; When Ken boldly sat at Goren's desk, in a deleted part of the script he tells Jeffries that he is Eames' boyfriend. Eames later tells Jeffries that she doesn't have a boyfriend. Anyone else remember seeing this anywhere or did I dream it? Interesting if it is true.

Wouldn't you love to be able to get your hands on the original scripts? I have seen books of TV scripts (Seinfeld, The Sopranos) in a little used bookstore I visit often. Wonder if LOCI's will ever become available?

yer head won't explode! you crack me up, skittles! and SoSue - i agree with skittles. the 'incredible multi-tasking healthy person award' goes to you.

that's the Hudson University touch, isn't it?? with the striped gothic arches overhead?

and i really appreciate this bit o' shipping, most amazing shippy cohorts. flattering lighting, utterly unnecessary dialogue ... yep. that's a ship all right. :)

this is slightly o-t, but still pertains to ... (anybody here read Cracked.com?) the old man was reading an article about how people only see what they expect to see. it was based on some really interesting experiments. (in one, a guy in a gorilla suit walks through a scenario and no kidding - NONE of the people in the study who observed the scenario saw the guy in he gorilla suit.)

but i think loci has been playing with this same principle.

Hi Skittles, I remember reading that too. I think it was on "the other board." I would love to see some original scripts. I was wondering about the person that bought the signed 'Blind Spot' script. It would be nice if they could share parts of it with us.

As for the bar scene, I take it that Bobby is annoyed because his father's friend is acting like a womanizing old man, kinda like Bobby's father and Bobby doesn't like being reminded of this. It's still shippy as all get out, but Bobby is obviously uncomfortable with this guys behavior toward Eames.

Thanks, skittles and Unicorn! I always watch "L&O: CI" on the treadmill and my outdoor runner friends think I'm a kook. "Don't you ever get bored with that?" they say. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but no, I don't. I miss so many nuances because of my multitasking that I love to go back and watch things that are discussed on this board. Each DVD episode is the perfect length for one of my runs. Is this the thread where we mentioned ages? No, it's not, but what the heck .... I'm 46 and in the shape of my life thanks to our show.

I have always said that if I were to meet VDO on the street, my opening line would be, "You have no idea how much you make me sweat."

Callie, back on topic, I didn't notice if they show the older man's hand; i.e., ring or not. Bobby seems to be overreacting to some harmless flirting, sort of like someone with a vested interest would. But maybe I'm reading into it.

had to go watch this scene. (watched it recently enough, but still  ) Definitely took notice of the flattering lighting. but, with my realist glasses on, it looked none too different than most of the bar scenes in CI. like, the one where BA are with Deakins and a buddy having beers... very flattering.
I'm thinking B's reaction is a result of the combination of:
-> the father-thing that Callie mentioned
-> the just plain awkwardness that ensues when someone says the one you love is gorgeous and your feelings are still somewhat secret... it's like, how do you react to that? "Yes, she is very lovely." or not say anything??? I feel for Bobby in this scenario, he couldn't really say anything, or nothing. he couldn't agree, cuz that'd be revealing, he couldn't not say anything, because that'd be rude or seem like he didn't agree, so he quickly diverted. With his eyes down and his voice shy. SHIP!
-> What someone mentioned a few posts back, he is embarrassed/caught off guard that he has been found out.

defs noticed. one of the most famous early touches. Both of these things in one episode! What can all this mean?? :ph43r:

agreed.

I gotta buy a small trampoline. I lost a bitta weight before the wedding by jumping for about an hour a day, while watching Gilmore Girls with my sister, or other such fun things/movies. (no ci dvds at the time) but that was my parents' house, my mom's trampoline. I barely have room for such a thing in my place, but it's worth it for my health. now I can watch BA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! eeeeeeee

Oh, I remembered another scene...the one where B/A are on that construction site a gazillion stories up on that high rise and Goren fakes falling. They don't show Eames' face when that happens, but wouldn't you love to see her expression? :o I bet she gave him %&*# for it later. I know MY heart always beats faster even though I have seen it so many times!

BTW, I am 42. I need to start shaping up!

yes I would've liked to see her face... what a stupid thing for him to do. I mean, they never really show how high up they are (of course because in reality, they're prob not high at all) but, how did Bobby know the dude would save him? whenever I see it, I'm kinda like, what an idiot! I realize the perp doesn't have fear, but how did Bobby know for sure that that meant he would save him? he's a big guy! He could've taken both of them (or all 3, for that matter) down!

yeah, I'm guessing she was feeling somewhat like how she was to feel later on in Pas De Deux -- y'know, when he sorta almost got them both blow'd up...

oh, Bobby.

I always attributed Bobby's discomfort to him not wanted to talk about his dad's funeral or get into the 'daddy subject'. However, after reading your posts here, I have second thoughts... good shippy thoughts :)

oh yeah!! good point bogs! I amend my statement: also a combination of that. He didn't want to think/talk about the funeral, or his dad. :P

Bumped since it is next in line! I read back thru the posts and saw somethinng else to add...

In the end, Ken tells Goren "She's the reason I get out of bed in the morning" (referring to his wife, Penny). Goren stares at him for a few seconds intently and replies "She believes in you".
I like to think there is a parallel there!
