I'm watching this one right now and I can't help but notice that there are a ton of allusions and a boatload of parallels here as regards Goren's life, and also as regards "B/A".... IMHSO.

-- Now, I've watched this before, several times and I count this among my favorites because I love the tragic story. But watching it again right now, I see even deeper than previous viewings. (I blame this board) (Thank you)

A good brother.
A bad brother.
A murdered brother.
A genius brother.
A schizophrenic mother.
An absent father.
An identity crisis.

And then Eames asking a woman, (while the camera pans meaningfully close), (paraphrasing): "You know when you are first with a guy, you notice things, something that makes your flags go up, and you ask yourself whether everything is alright with him..."

Do you think she's talking about Goren and herself? I do.

Oh yeah B)
"Identity Crisis" is one of those episodes that help us picture Bobby's childhood. It's also one of those eps that make me shed tears  Especially at the very start where we get a glimpse into one of their ordeals and the tragic death of their mom, also the end, particularly when Bobby tells Mr.X (can't remember his name  ) "he loved you, he trusted you" :( Jeez, it's sad.... I always interpreted it as both Bobby remembering how he trusted and loved Frank, also that Frank loved and protected him *sniff*

We also get another hint that Frank was responsible when they were kids (how the older brother was taking care of the younger one). I don't like it when I come across "Bobby childhood" fics and they portray Frank as a mean kid... He WAS a good brother/person. Their messed up childhood just got the best of him. They 'could of gone either way' Bobby went one way, Frank the other. Being the oldest brother, he had to feel overwhelmed *sigh*

I found the contrast interesting:
The oldest brother is the genius VS Frank destitute
The youngest is destitute VS Bobby the genius

And of course, I loved Bobby's subtle reactions through it all, especially at the mention of their schizophrenic mother. Eames gave him a quick glance too...

The very very first time I watched it that thought came to my mind! But nobody brought it up on the forum, so I just kept it to myself thinking it's just me.... And yes, the camera sorta 'insisted' on Eames...

And now that line sticks out like a frog in a punchbowl. I mean, it's not like she's talking about Joe. It's not like she's talking about Terry - a one time casual date to a fund raiser that never was mentioned again (although if he wasn't her acquaintance before, it would be kind of strange that he'd go out on a first date with a big old pregnant woman... I guess that would be a flag raiser, LOL) So, I'm thinking Goren is the only candidate for her reveries here.

I think you're right--it can only be Bobby. The whole point of the episode is to draw parallels to Bobby. Why should this line be any different? It only makes sense that she's talking about her man

heey, tigger! long time no... read!! ;)

watched this ep again, I guess the thought crossed my mind about what she said about "is he okay.." being about Bobby, but I thought, nah, that's just reading too much into it.
It stares even us shippers in the face sometimes and we don't see. Because it's EVERYWHERE in this show. It'd probably be more efficient (but a lot less fun :D) for us to look for and point out to each other the scenes/lines where there ISN'T a shippy parallel...

I hadn't thought about it before, but I also agree that she must be talking about Bobby. (That is why I LOVE the ship) I actually didn't care much for this episode until I read the ideas y'all posted here. Now I think it is very shippy and classic LOCI, that is, it has the potential to be very dramatic and emotional, but is presented in an understated way. It is up to the viewers (and shippers) who know about Bobby's history to read between the lines and imagine what they are feeling and the "missing" scenes. ...Yeah, I know this is kind of a "duh" statement. It is what we do all the time! But I just think this episode is such a great example of how we shippers watch the show and see "the rest of the story" (thank you Paul Harvey).

And...I wonder what "flag" Bobby put out there when Alex first met him, that made her wonder "Is he okay"? It must have been enough to make her write "the letter" referred to in TWSH. Obviously she decided she was wrong, or more likely, she decided she could overlook whatever it was. Falling in love with someone can make you accept something that might be a "deal breaker" with someone else.

Oh and Paulie- a frog in the punch bowl? I haven't heard that one before. I love it!
