Cat's Cradle was one of the first serious books I remember reading. He was working on a new book, wonder if it'll be published?

Ah well, so long.

Hope not, that is my greatist fear as a writer.

Why? I mean you're dead, why would you care at this point?

No if I had any fears it would be that my bastard heirs would treat me as a so called literary god whose works are sacred and could only be controlled or commented on in the proper literary manner. (So that they could maximize the profits they get from my own previous hard work.)

Because finished work is finished work and unfinished work is unfinished work. I don't mind if scholars look at my notebooks but I'd hate 'the unfinished novel' to come out after my death. I don't want people to think I roll out of bed perfect but I'd rather not have a substandard product to my name.

You mean like what they're doing with J.R.R. Tolkien?

My regret at the passing of Kilgore Trout is somewhat reduced by my relieved discovery that this wasn't a farewell thread from Eco, which is what it looked like when I first saw it.

Exactly.

It depends of who finishes the author's book. Spider Robinson finished one of RAH's novels that was never completed. He used RAH's notes and what was already written. It wasn't bad. of course Spider is a big RAH fan and genuinely tried to keep everything asclose to Heinlein as possible.

Variable Star is the name of the book.
I would like to think if I were arranging a royal assassination, I’d plan in such a way that I wouldn’t be standing there gawking like a fool when the King died.

That would piss me off even more but I'm neither a writer or dead so what do I know.

Yeah, I'm not big on unfinished novels being published. You're always wondering "did the author write this part or did someone else?".

edit: I guess it would depend on how close it was to being finished. If it just needed editing and proofreading, then ok.
