Such amusing fiction, these stories they tell. It always comes to this. If they really had a desire to live, they would've been more aware of how easy it is to die, would've chosen their actions more wisely. In these moments, you can tell they're not regretting having hurt you. They're regretting doing it to your face. You are not special. You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake. You are the same decaying organic matter as everything else. | |

There are many reasons why I dislike measures like this. One is that stranger danger is largely a myth. Not a myth in the sense that strangers never abuse children. Because they do. But abuse is most likely to be at the hands of parents and family friends. Taking that into account and the fact that only convicted offenders will get one of these plates I think it creates a false sense of security. I think we all agree that pedophilia is a bad thing (although it's not the same as sex offenders) but license plates that invite vigilante justice arn't really a world of good themselves. The reason why I specifically dislike this measure is that a person can use more than one car and a car can be used by more than one person. |

"Completely absurd!" says the old curmudgeon who's about a half-step to the right of Attila the Hun when it comes to crime prevention and interdiction. Sheriff Alexander probably is one of those elected sheriffs who knows about as much about law enforcement as my cat does. Come to think of it, my cat probably knows more than he does. |

I am somewhat reminded of the arguments that Max uses for allowing Nazi's, Pedophiles, etc, talk on Jolt: If we shun them so only those in their little group talk with them, they will remain what they are. But no, let us shun those who have committed crimes to the farthest reaches of the world and make them so that they should be no greater than the scum on your boot. After all, think of the children. Fucking morons. |

After talking with Imperfectia about the article, this line came out: "All rapists shall drive around with a Green license plate and all Jewish people shall wear the Star of David" |

Anyone else think that that skirts dangerously close to Godwin's Law? |

I vote yes. Anyway these measures are for protecting the children from pedophiles not protecting people from rapists. Sometimes I think that's less about children being innocent and weaker to children not deserving it. With the implication that the grown-ups did. |

It comes down to the state not having the balls to perform their own executions. They're hoping that the public will do it for them. |

Here's a completely off the wall thought.... If these folk are clearly thought to be a danger to society and need to be labelled as so, then why aren't they in jail where people who are considered a danger to society are supposed to be kept? |

And we all know that this is not about making sense. Seriously, why in the world would any government do something that actually made sense? What this says to me is "Hey! It's open season on the child abusers! Load up the guns and let's do some pedo huntin'! Yeehaw!" or maybe not. Just an example of what some of the general public might sink to if this were implemented. |

*puts on boring criminologist hat* Because a) prisons are expensive the sentencing rules in the majority of the West, especially the States, are retributive in character - ie. just deserts. (plus a bit more to keep the public 'happy'). Proportionality of sentence to the crime and all that.c) this is a politician hoping to get votes by playing on people's fears. 'Public protection' - the biggest card in current politics. Despite what the British media say, did you know that judges are about 20% harsher in their sentences than the average sentence various members of the public imposed in theoretical cases based on real ones? In other news... |

If you're not willing to house them in prison, rehabilitate them, or properly release them as free individuals, execute them. You're taking their life away anyways, why not be honest about it and save everyone the time and heartache. Randomea's almost definitely right. It's a vote grab. |
