The five cities bidding to host the 2012 Olympic Games put forward their final pleas to win the vote in Singapore on Wednesday.

I want Moscow to get it. Don't know why.

You?

Please, God, not London. That would be hell. Not only do we get all the hassle but Londoners will also have to stump up extra tax; I'd have less of a problem with this if we were given free tickets, but I doubt that will happen.

Hmm, Paris - Chirac might be more amenable to a deal at G8 if he's flushed with success at the Olympic bid...

The price you pay for living in the only area of the country anyone seems to care about :P

And don't they remember how badly the Brentford Olympics went?

This is true. His jokes about English food were funny too.

The other contenders - Moscow, New York and Madrid - were eliminated in the first three rounds by International Olympic Committee (IOC) members.

London doesn't have a summer worth writing about. Ergo, it cannot get the Summer Olympics. Ditto for Moscow.
Madrid or Paris would be nice.
I really don't want New York to get it - not sure why. Something to do with the ghastly Ian Thorpe getting involved, methinks.

In other news, the Russians are obviously getting really involved - Putin's speech to the IOC was the first ever speech by a Russian leader in English. All this for a series of games.

Russia has security issues though, which makes them kinda.... impossible. I do not mind if it is London or Paris really. I will visit London this summer maybe, or next summer. Would be nice if it is not a building pit :P

It will be a building pit, assuming they're on time. 'We' won.

Oh Bugger off :P At least It wouldn't be in September!

Seriously though, we have a summer. Pretty similar to Paris actually.

Knoot, come up to Manchester. I can show you around the cotton mills.

Our Olympics were only in September so all you northern hemisphere-types wouldn't get worried about 'disturbing heat waves', ie the Australian Summer.

Ah, it's alright. Here's hoping that the Londoners do a good job. Remember, everyone was complaining about the Athenians, right up until the opening ceremony. Then we all just sat back in amazement. Or at least that's what all us Sydneysiders did.

If by 'successful' you mean 'condemned to at least seven years of building works, tax rises, projects running over budget, a gutted transport network and unfettered political egotism', then yes, London was successful.

Hmm.

"building works, tax rises, projects running over budget, a gutted transport network and unfettered political egotism"

Business as usual, actually.
