War games narrowly won out over card games last meeting, so it's time to vote on specifics! Whatever game wins the vote will get lots of attention and people will play it and may or may not (but probably will) have a tournament sponsored by the club! In addition, we will likely get club pieces for loan for people too cheap to buy in. Win-win, right? Anyway, vote for whatever game tickles y'all's fancy. Obvious choices are Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy. And also Axis and Allies Miniatures cause that's what I voted for. Edited by Dragon_Paragon, Nov 2 2010, 03:40 PM.

I put in a vote for one of the GW off-branch games. Necromunda, Blood Bowl, or my personal favorite, Mordheim. Reasoning: Quick games, easy for campaigns, relatively low startup cost. Cons: Given that the game isn't supported anymore, there's not specific miniatures for some of the armies. Some of the rules are busted, but at the same time, these could be fixed. I'd rather not go with Coreheim, which I have a couple of problems with (mainly the ass-backwards reasons for the noninclusion of Sisters of Sigmar). So, tl;dr version would be a vote for Mordheim. |

We actually have Francesco trying to start up a Blood Bowl day. He just won't get back to me with a specific time. |

I second the vote for Mordheim. As stated it has some issues, but those could be fixed with some minor changes (mainly making armor/shields worthwhile). From the perspective of a starting campaign (unless a lot of people are already invested in one of the others) it is very cheap to get into. One box of warriors/archers/whatever and you are ready to go for good chunk of the possible warbands (unless you play Chaos or something). I would also like to do Warhammer 40K sometime (the Skitari are waiting for war!), but that has the disadvantage of a pretty large investment to get to a good points level. Another one to consider that is relatively cheap to get started is Warmachine/Hordes. More of a squad-based approach that the warhammers, so less stuff to buy/paint/tote. Its also got a lot of steampunk going on, which is good. |

I voted 40k because I already have an Apoc sized Ork army, though I still need some battlewagons & a Stompa. (painting is a WIP). |

I prefer Axis and Allies because it comes prepainted and preassembled, yet it doesn't look like ass doing so. That, and it's ridiculously cheap compared to all other options and has randomized boosters. That last one may just be a turn on for me, but I'm a sucker for it. Allows me to feel like I'm gambling without actually wasting the money. Besides, the system's solid, games are fast and simple, and the minis are pretty sweet. That, and it's actually still in production, so we'd have support from the company running it. If that doesn't sway y'all, not it for painting and assembling the minis. I'll fill out the paperwork so the club can buy 'em, but I am NOT gonna agonize over plastic with crazy glue and a tiny paintbrush for hours on end. |

There is a lot to be said for the whole prepainted / preassembled thing, that's for sure. That said, I just like the GW games where your dudes can level up and you can put some personality into them. I'm saying this knowing that you've likely named some of your tanks. ("Tanxalotl!") |

The painting can be tedious but, fun, if you like that sort of thing. Oh, must go paint my Elven Ranger for D&D. Whatever route you wind up taking, I suggest using ebay for a lot of the purchases. I spent around 400 on a army that'd normally cost a couple thousand. |

I will use plastic army men for my units and there is NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO STOP ME. I've found I don't really have much of a taste for wargames (which is odd, given my parentage), but I do enjoy Mordheim now and again. I shouldn't be counted on as a reliable combatant, though. |

Oh, prepainted is a HUGE plus. I don't wanna put in a ton of hours for stuff like that. You've sold me, for one. |

I voted for Hordes. I've got two armies, moderate experience rules lawyering it, and I'm comfortable teaching it. I realize I may be late, but oh well. |
