Snap! Click! Wirrrrrr....

The tube spun freely in it's frame. Excellent.

He'd always had a bit of passion for making things. Especialy if they were used for killing people, or in this case, faster, at least. Looking over the Mini-forge he'd set up in his room, he saw the result of days of labour, sheets of paper everywere, and splotches of paper.

Now the real result was in his hand.

He'd trained very hard to reload 2 hand crossbows very fast. However, 'very fast' means about 10 seconds, not enough time to shoot again in close combat. It was heavy, and it would take a bit of effort to use prolongedly, until he could get some really good steel and try the other design flapping in his head. It had to do with wind up-clocks.

The item, was in fact, a large crossbow. A crossbow that, using levers and gears, could be "pumped" to bring up a new arrow from a revolving chamber, and cock the arrow. It put quite some strain on the contruction of the crossbow, which was why it was quite heavy, as it needed many steel supports. With practice, though, he was sure he could even use it to fire relativly rapidly, even at a moving target. He'd even skewed the crossbow design a bit, to give the arrow a spin, making it more accurate over long distances. Using a couple of very small monocles in a tube, he could also see over a distance with it.

Potentialy, you could put 3 arrows in someone 100 meters away with much accuracy, before they had time to react. While he prided himself on only ever needing one shot to kill someone, with the elves, time-mages, and generaly resilient people he'd found in this town, not to mention mobs of witchsniffers, he felt the need to be able to shoot fast.

Time for testing. He'd thought about it... the kings highway was a good place to find sparse forests, with convenient trees to shoot at. He stood, put his cloak on, and stuck the crossbow on it's loop. It made a slightly bigger buldge than his other stuff, and it now occured to him that he could find a way to make it easy to assemble and disassemble.

He walked out of the tavern and headed off to on the kings highway, with his cloak over his head to stop the guards from looking at him too closely.

[OOC: A few days later...]

Chruck-Chuck

He smiled. The inspiration he got from Illi's innocent words was now an almost flawless killing machine in his hand.

He looked over the scope down at the remains of his old armour on a block of wood. Every arrow had dug right through the armour and 2 inches of wood, poking a hole through the end. The draw was so strong that he could only pull it back twice before he got too tired to do it again, yet with the gear system he designed, and the use of an overly strong clock coil, he could fire 2 arrows per second, the coil having enough energy to fire ten shots. Once that was out however, it took three minutes to reload. The coil wouldn't hold up forever, either, it would probably need replacing after every hundred shots or so, as the steel would fatigue and crack.

He still had more ideas to try, but the past few days work had caused some serious muscle aches. He slung the crossbow over his back, put his cloak on, and went downstairs to ease his pain.

As he opened the door and looked back inside as he closed it, he realised what he wanted to do in his life, after his career as an Assassin was finished. He also realised he could make alot of money off these things...
