Clanrat
|
Hi all, Sorry for the beginner-type questions. I've only played a couple of games of Warhammer total and played a larger game for the first time this weekend and just wanted to see if we messed a situation up. Some lizardmen stuff charged my clanrat units, of which I had 2 clanrat units close together. a squad of saurus charged each clanrat unit and a stegadon charged in between the two in a way that left him in base combat with both clanrat units. We counted and resolved the whole thing (both saurus units, both clanrat units, and the stegadon) as one big combat. 1. Does this type of situation even count as a multi-unit combat? Or is that only when things are on the flanks or when two units both hit a unit's front? 2. Since we ruled it as one giant combat, combat resolution seemed really bad for me. I think the rulebook says you only get a maximum of +3 for ranks for combat resolution. Is this per unit? Or just +3 total even though I had two units of clanrats? Both Saurus units hit pretty hard so the combat resolution wasn't even close with myself only getting one +3 for ranks. Just trying to see if did this correctly for this type of situation. Another question, on the modeling side, a unit just has to be modeled with a MAJORITY of the weapons they are armed with, right? So I could throw some of the Island of Blood spear clanrats into a clanrat/handweapon unit to help fill it out and to add variety and that is okay for tournaments and stuff? Just wanted to check. Thanks for any help! Edited by Pawleader, 29th September 2014 - 03:38 PM.

1. Yes it is a multiple combat. 2. Normally you are actually not allowed to charge two units. Only if it is the only way to do so. So eg could the Stegadon be placed into contact with the original target but on the other side of the clanrats? Then it should have moved that way. So from this: Sa.......St......Sa ......................... .....CR..........CR This is a solution the rules would accept. StSa..Sa ...CR.CR But it is very context specific with regards to unit configurations and terrain and so on. Unfortunately since it's context dependent it's hard to say if you can move "dumbly" and force a clip. Personally I'd say no. Modelling... technically yes the rules only call for a majority and what you suggest is something I've done myself. But remember when it regards tournaments the TO has final say on any and all rules. |

Thanks, snowblizz. Yeah, it was like your first example with the Stegadon kind of pinned in the middle, so it was probably the only possible place for it to go. Is that definitely how you determine the combat resolution? We count full kills but only the rank bonus up to a maximum of 3 total, not 3 from each squad? And I'll keep the modelling advice in mind for any tournaments. Thanks! |

Combat Resolution is: All kills. +1 if any unit has a standard Highest Rank bonus (capped at 3) for any unit on that side +1 if any unit charged Obviously he's getting a lot of kill points, but it's important to note that all the other fun bonuses he normally gets are once per combat, not once per unit. After you determine the loser, you then do your break checks per unit, checking steadfast per unit. You should have more ranks than he does, at least in one unit. Flee! direction is then directly away from the unit with the most ranks. |

I thought when you charged a unit you got free wheels to get maximized pieces in combat. That should keep you from contacting multiple units. |

Well, maybe. Had your opponent wanted it should probably have been possible to place the Stegadon on the other corner (by moving it first) and thus not clipping the second unit. Had he moved it first. That's where I feel it comes down to "rules technically" breaking the intent of the rules. Sort of. There's really few restrictions on the charge move other than that you can only wheel once up to 90 degrees until you contact. And then there's a "wheel" to align. The whole move must indeed strive to maximize models in contact. And yes often this will keep you from contacting other units, though more importantly we are expressively told we can't charge more than 1 unit. Edited by snowblizz, 29th September 2014 - 08:00 PM.
