You need to have a legal target also in range. So if you couldn't possibly hit anything EXCEPT the unit in CC, then it's a no go. Also, don't expect this to win you any friends or sportsmanship awards. |

thats what I was thinking, run your WFT along side your SV or whatever, get into combat, hopefully last a turn, then BURN BABY BURN(since the WFT I believe is move or fire)..... so how is that "cheezy" (funny for a skaven player to say) if its within the rules? because most weapons cant fire into combat without being randomised? thanks |

@mcbane/mamoth You CANNOT fire directly into a combat of stprmvirmin or ANY non slave unit reguardless of if the template starts on them. Warp fire throwers must still target a legal target and a legal target is any unit not in combat or just in combat with slaves. The ONLY way to hit a combat with SV in it is to start with enough room to where the template does not touch and then fire on a target on the OTHER side of the combat, with is a very rare occasion indeed and very cheesy as the warp fire thrower is the only template weapon with that very very very odd clause As for wlc, you can place the initial marker in the sv so long as the minimum drift (aka 2") would still mean you couldnt hit them. You can never place the starting position in such a way that your own unit (other than slaves) could be hit. |

ok, my bad...so you can only fire INTO a unit in combat with SLAVES...nothing else, not SV or CRs.... so my slaves are fighting highelves, I can shoot at the highelves with the WFT without damaging the slaves in theory as long as the template only hits them... I havnt used a WFT before, so this is a good discussion on how it works...thanks for all the help:-) |

Warpfire Thrower is probably the second worst rules issue in the Skaven book today. It just doesn't work like anything in the game, and the rules for it don't fit well with all the other rules. If you plan on using it for Shenanigans, expect to have a long conversation before, or a big argument during, your game. |

I dont plan on using it for shenanigans, I plan on using it to kill things:-) oh, wait... will have to look at what the rules actually say prior to useing it, lucky we play freindly games at someones house, so it isnt with strangers in a store, helps keep things civil, hehe.... and after seeing what a terrorgiest (sp?) can do to my poor rats I need all the help I can get ;-P |

It's tricky to spot because the phrasing isn't obvious, but flame throwers indeed reference a target, so definitely only something engaged only with slaves in CC |
