Anyone know how big the war-litter base is?

If against GW policies to post such info can you point me to the page in the rulebook?

Thanks!

This was the last time they ever addressed the subject directly; March 2010 (the tail end of 7th edition);
Quote:

Q. What are the Unit Strengths and base size of a
War-litter? And what about a Bonebreaker?
A. For both models, we suggest using a Unit
Strength of 3 (plus 1 for the Warlord), and a base
size of 40mm square. However, do keep in mind
that, as for all conversions, there are no strict rules
about base size (other than: ‘Be reasonable!’), and
that any forthcoming Citadel miniature might be
different from this suggested size.

I'm finally working on my war litter conversion. The 40 x 40 base seems a bit small so I'm going to go For the 40 x 60 base route. My question for those who have used a 40 x 60 war litter base size, what orientation is the base within the unit? Is it like the chariot base where the narrow side is the front side?
Thanks for your input.

My own ended up 60x40 (ie wider) because that was how I could fit my design better with reasonable poses for the models carrying it.

I went 2 wide x 3 deep, but considered going the other. Biggest concern is will the people you play against cause problems because of how much Frontage your warlord takes up, and will you be upset if you have to field him 'sideways' in certain games?

For gits and shiggles I have a Ratling Gun kitbash that's longways. I just run him so that he's not facing his facing if my opponent cares about that sort of thing.

Oh there's no worry of any complaints locally. Being literally the longbeard in the club has at least some privileges. Let's just say that whining about my nice model isn't going to end very well.

FWIW it's impossible to field the model any other way. It won't fit.

And if people want to give up the advantage of less stormvermin models attacking, well, it's not my problem exactly. There's no advantage for me in the wider frontage, the opposite really.

Thanks Snow
I've played around with how I want my war litter bearers and decided to go narrow end up front. I'll post some pics soon but my decision in orientation was decided by design as well. The description under skaven mounts " litters borne by slaves and guarded by the strongest stormvermin " steered me to the larger base size. Will be very interested to see if they release a model for the war litter and how games workshop sculpts it compared to the books description.
Cheers!

There's actually a very clever advantage to having a long warlitter in the front. Think 2 ranks back by 3 or 4 wide.

Imagine you have your Stormvermin set up with your Warlitter and BSB on one side.

ssssssWWWb

(s)tormvermin, (WWW)arlitter, (b)SB.

When making charges to you to maximize models in combat, any enemy unit with a smaller frontage than you (say, a width of five versus your ten) will have to move to contact the Stormvermin, then your litter, and finally your BSB. If they are not wide enough, they'll have to hit the Stormvermin and Warlitter and not be close enough to the BSB because to move over towards the BSB would reduce the number of models in combat.

After combat, they could combat reform. They could also charge with another unit to spread out more.

But in this way, you can "protect" your usually soft and weak BSB from having attacks assigned to him and cheaply dying because nobody throws challenges out and we don't generally put our heroes in the back rank (even though we have "Lead from the Rear"...).
