Weeklong Painting & Hobby Challenge
Now Extended to a second week!

Monday, September 30-Sunday, October 13, 2013

Entrants
Hours logged\V.V.P.s completed\P.R.S. points achieved
Bounty: 0.5/0/0
Host Tar: 9/22/3
Ratt Baron: 18.5/1/5
Scarfester: 3.5/6/0

TOTAL: 31.5\29\8

The Weeklong Challenge begins officially at the start of Monday, September 30 wherever you are, give or take a few hours. In order to accommodate the UnderEmpire's worldwide nature, we have posted this thread several hours before the official start, and will be closing it at least four hours after the official close. Participants will still only be allowed to work on the Challenge for seven full days, but this will give people a little more flexibility while permitting everyone to be working together worldwide for most of the Weeklong Challenge. If you are reading this thread, you can begin as soon as you like, or you can wait until the start of Monday in your time zone--it is your choice.

It is very important that you read THIS THREAD, which contains the rules on how to make an entry.

Earning P.R.S. Points

P.R.S. points are earned both for the work you do (as measured in V.V.P.s) and for the time you spend. So you will collect a P.R.S. point for every 10 V.V.P.s you complete, as well for the total time you've devoted to your hobby during the week, as shown below:

6 hours - 1 P.R.S. point
12 hours - 3 P.R.S. points
18 hours - 5 P.R.S. points
24 hours - 6 P.R.S. points

To join in the event, take of a photo of the models you are going to assemble and/or paint, on top of a newspaper from the current day with the date shown in the photo. If you don't have a newspaper, you can take a photo of the models in front of your computer, with the screen showing the start page of this event.

Once you have entered you can paint whenever you like, for however long as you like. Some might attempt the full marathon, while others might just do a few hours. Each time you start a new patch of hobby activity, take a photo at the start and at then another when you finish. This is a sort of 'logging in and out'. Let us know how many hours (in quarterly hour increments) you did in the session, as well as how many vow value points (V.V.P.s) you completed. See the section at the bottom of this post for instructions on figuring out V.V.P.s. The method is exactly the same as the one used for the Painting Vows: I've included it here just so that people don't have to switch back and forth between threads in order to make their calculations.

In the thread's initial post, we will keep a log of how much time you have completed, as well as V.V.P.s and your current number of P.R.S. points collected. Every time you make a post, you need to include a line showing your accomplishments. The line must be in the following format:

Name: # hours\V.V.P.s completed\current P.R.S. points collected

Example:
Sample

Scarfester: 7.25\26\3
Code:

[b]Scarfester[/b]: [color=red]7.25[/color]\[color=yellow]26[/color]\[color=green]3[/color]
So in this example Scarfester has painted for a total of 7 and a quarter hours, completed 26 V.V.P.s and has currently earned 3 P.R.S. points.

We will keep these running totals updated as the Challenge goes on! Just make a log in and log out post for each session, and we will monitor your progress. The Weeklong Painting & Hobby Challenge has begun.

Calculating V.V.P.s
Taken from the current Painting Vows thread
Reference List for Vow Value Points

Assembly
1 V.V.P. for each man sized model.
2 V.V.P.s for each ogre sized model on large bases, weapon teams, and cavalry (same for Tyranid warrior size models).
5 V.V.P.s for Hell Pit Abominations, Screaming Bells/Plague Furnaces, Warp Lightning Cannons, monstrous creatures, tanks, or other large-sized models.

NB - Forge World models will vary a lot in size so ask me before deciding on a value for these.

Painting
2 V.V.P.s for non-character man-sized models.
4 V.V.P.s for weapon teams or other man-sized models on a cavalry base.
5 V.V.P.s for characters or ogre-sized models (on large bases - same for 40K).
10 V.V.P.s for Hell Pit Abominations, Screaming Bells/Plague Furnaces, Warp Lightning Cannons, monstrous creatures, tanks, or other large-sized models.
NB - Again for Forge World models, let us know what it is and we'll decide on a value.

Basing
1 V.V.P.s for each model based.

Conversions/Green stuff
1 V.V.P.s for a small conversion/green stuff job.
2 V.V.P.s for a large conversion/green stuff job.
4 V.V.P.s for an extremely large conversion/green stuff job.

Scenery Vow Values

Assembly
0 V.V.P. for pieces requiring no assembly (i.e.: hills).
3 V.V.P.s for Walls and Fences, Temple of Skulls, etc..
5 V.V.P.s for Chapel, Watchtower, Woods, Dreadstone Blight, Arcane Fulcrums, etc..
6 V.V.P.s for building and basing a 2' x 2' section of game board or display board. (There are no points for this if you use a pre-made board, such as the Citadel Realm of Battle Gameboard or the Battle Foam X-Board Travel Display Board.)
7 V.V.P.s for the Garden of Morr
10 V.V.P.s for extremely complex pieces like Skullvane Manse, Witchfate Tor, and the Fortified Manor House.

Painting
4 V.V.P.s for Gaming Hill, Modular Gaming Hill, Walls and Fences set, Temple of Skulls, etc..
5 V.V.P.s for Chapel, Watchtower, Woods, Dreadstone Blight, Arcane Fulcrums, etc..
6 V.V.P.s for painting and completing a 2' x 2' section of game board or display board.
15 V.V.P.s for the Garden of Morr
20 V.V.P.s for extremely complex scenery pieces like Skullvane Manse, Witchfate Tor, or the Fortified Manor House.

Note
There will be no extra points for basing scenery pieces or adding static grass, as that is included in the Painting value. Also, the Fortified Manor House gets to have its walls treated separately, as though they were a separate Walls and Fences set. So you'd get 20 points for painting the Fortified Manor House proper, plus another 4 points for painting the walls and fences that came with it.

I got home from work at 3pm, but have been sleeping a lot since then. Had a bad nights sleep last night and needed to catch up.

I will be doing a load of assembling of models for now. Trying to get all my unnassembled models made.
Once i've got them done, I can move on to getting a load of my Imperial Guard painted up so I can start gaming again at my local gaming club.
I've had one game so far, and actually won it. But I didn't like playing with a big tide of unpainted Guard. Hard to tell which units were which, as they sort of blended together a bit.

I have vampire counts to do, in the form of 5 dire wolves, a load of skeleton warriors and ghouls. Then I have 10 Imperial Guardsmen to assemble and then 3 heavy weapon weapon teams to do.
If I get all of these done over this weekend, then I will be very happy!

Starting photo:

Vampire Counts in the box, and Imperial Guard outside. Weapon team sprues on the left and normal Guardsmen on the right.

Might not get anything done tonight, but I will try in a bit.

So is anyone else joining me? ^_^

Okay, I've put you up top. Technically, it isn't a log-in until your photo goes up (that's true for Scarfester as well, of course), but I'm glad to know you'll be participating.

I see the log-in photo now, but it wasn't visible before. There was no log-out photo, because Scarfester didn't log out--I was guessing that he fell asleep, or something. Since the Painting & Hobby Challenges are entirely Scarfester's invention, and we're still using his system, I'm sure we'll come up with a way to fix this.

I put up a start photo, but not one of what i'd done, as I didn't do anything. I thought I had stated that in my orginal post.
Really not too well at the moment, so might not get anything done for a few days.

And if there is no real progress made, then I suppose an update photo isn't necessary. Just put up an update on your line of information.

I have some Gutter Runners but they're all in various states of completion - these I needed to finish off some details for, took me an hour, which is all I had :P I'll be doing more tomorrow!
