Alternate Models for Poisoned Wind Globadiers; Are there any?

The more and more I think about it the more I like the idea of running a Skryre army. By that I mean lead by Ikit, lots of Engineers (3-4), double doomwheels, double WLC, slaves, no to few weapon teams though. However one unit I would like to include gives me pause. I cannot stand the price, and to a degree the model, for Poisoned Wind Globadiers. Does anyone know a good alternative for someone in the States?

Not necessarily cheap and requires a bit of converting, but some of my favourite globadiers that I've seen are Shadowsliver's: http://s6.zetaboards.com/The_UnderEmpire/topic/8840399/1/

From what I recall/can spot, he used Stormvermin for the base body but cut the legs down a notch, an Empire wizard hand holding a globe, a gas-mask head from either the WLC or the Doomwheel kit, some 40K Ork bits for the backpack and some wires and stuff. He goes into more detail over on his warseer blog (which also has a lot of other brilliant Skryre stuff): http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?274176-Sliver-s-Skaven-(work-in-progress)/page7

Considering you get 20 Stormvermin in a box, if you can find a supplier for the other bits or find other things to use you should be able to get a good number of globadiers.

His Globadiers are one of the more expensive conversions if you don't have a huge bitsbox or live in the U.S though. Believe me I have tried doing those conversions and they are pretty tough to make and find the correct bits for.

A good alternative that I have been considering myself lately is making them from the mortar weapon team. You got one rat cradling a globe in that one. A full unit of those would look pretty cool especially if you can do some small alterations in the pose like turning the head, doing a different back pack etc.

If you Search through the hobby section there are a half dozen conversion ideas, though Matik is right that Shadowsilvers are probably on the top of the pile.

Skrits - Warlock Engineers: Works in Progress; Decided to get a few more Toy Engineer conversions...
Skrits had to reorganize his Photo account about 9 months ago, and apparently this thread hasn't been fixed yet, but when he or I get it patched up, it will have some pretty pictures in it.

AND some Topics: These aren't really picture references, but they have good information:
Poison Wind Globadiers; Making them?
Poison Wind Globadiers; Alternative models..?

The veermyn from Mantic's Warpath range have some rat heads with gaz masks and good looking backpacks.

You can get the bits from hord o' bits I think

Some of their bodies and weapons would make easy to build warpfire throwers too

Quiet, I'm plotting.

I also converted my Globadiers, but really, really simply.

Plague Monk bodies. Heads from Plague Monks and Clanrat 'Monkey-Rats', hole drilled through snout and plasticard rod added to make the mask breathers, strips of greenstuff layered on to create the mask outers. Blunderbuss arms from the Empire Militia box. Parts from my bits box that look vaguely like barrels, cannisters, etc to make the backpacks. Old wire from a computer was used to make the hoses.

Obviously not a 1-1 recreation, I decided to give them 'gas guns' as opposed to globes, but the basic hallmarks of the Globadier look are retained in order to diminish confusion on the table.

YES! More Trask Models!!!!

Hardest thing to find around here seems to be models by Trask or by Scarfester, and every time we get some they're top of the line conversions and paint.

I used plaguemonk bodies, the gasmask heads from the Cannon/catapult set, the "drumstick arm" from the plaguemonk set and space marine backpacks. Worked fine when you're not that good with greenstuff.

I'm planning on doing something similar to the original post in making a heavily converted Skrye army, augmented with clan mors. I never much liked the original globadier models either. I'm going to be doing a lot of sculpting with mine, but I'll be sure to post the results. I'm starting out with the gas-mask heads from the warp lightning cannon. If you're looking for bitz in the US check out ebay. There are tons available for the skaven.

Yea, I just used the three Plague Claw catapult heads put them on Plague Monk bodies, but that's where I am stuck. I did make some globes out of green stuff, that was easy. Just need to get some backpack bits now, and some arms with open hands. Had 4 old Globadier models I bought 20 years ago, so after I am done I will have 7 with the conversions. With a BSB or WE character, that's an 8 model unit of skirmishing globe fun.
