24-Hour Painting & Hobby Challenge
Honoring Golden Rat Winner Sleboda's Birthday

Saturday, July 20-Sunday, July 21, 2013
Beginning at Noon CDT (Sleboda's Time Zone)

Entrants
Hours logged\V.V.P.s completed\P.R.S. points achieved
Hannanibal: 0.75/0/0
Plague Priest Phebrickid: 1/0/0
Scarfester: 10.5/10/2
Skrits: 12.25/0/3
Sleboda: 19/85/13

TOTAL: 28.75\9\3

The 24-Hour Challenge begins officially on Saturday at noon, Central Daylight Time. In order to accommodate the UnderEmpire's worldwide nature, we have posted this thread several hours before the official start, and will be closing it at least four hours after the official close. Participants will still only be allowed to work on the Challenge for 24 hours, but this will give people a little more flexibility while permitting everyone to be working together worldwide for most of the 24-Hour Challenge. If you are reading this thread, you can begin as soon as you like, or you can wait until noon, Central Time--your choice.

Here are the official start times for a few of the regions where large concentrations of UnderEmpire members live:
24-Hour Painting & Hobby Challenge: Start Times Worldwide
Saturday July 20 unless specified
Central Time Zone (US & Canada) - noon CDT
Eastern Time Zone (US & Canada) - 1 pm EDT
UK - 6 pm BDT
Netherlands/Belgium - 7 pm CEST
Eastern Australia - Sunday, 4 am AEST

It is very important that you read THIS THREAD, which contains the rules on how to make an entry.

Earning P.R.S. Points

P.R.S. points are earned both for the work you do (as measured in V.V.P.s) and for the time you spend. So you will collect a P.R.S. point for every 10 V.V.P.s you complete, as well for the total time you've devoted to your hobby during the week, as shown below:

6 hours - 1 P.R.S. point
12 hours - 3 P.R.S. points
18 hours - 5 P.R.S. points
24 hours - 6 P.R.S. points

To join in the event, take of a photo of the models you are going to assemble and/or paint, on top of a newspaper from the current day with the date shown in the photo. If you don't have a newspaper, you can take a photo of the models in front of your computer, with the screen showing the start page of this event.

Once you have entered you can paint whenever you like, for however long as you like. Some might attempt the full marathon, while others might just do a few hours. Each time you start a new patch of hobby activity, take a photo at the start and at then another when you finish. This is a sort of 'logging in and out'. Let us know how many hours (in quarterly hour increments) you did in the session, as well as how many vow value points (V.V.P.s) you completed (see the July Painting Vows for details).

In the thread's initial post, we will keep a log of how much time you have completed, as well as V.V.P.s and your current number of P.R.S. points collected. Every time you make a post, you need to include a line showing your accomplishments. The line must be in the following format:

Name: # hours\V.V.P.s completed\current P.R.S. points collected

Example:
Sample

Scarfester: 7.25\26\3
Code:

[b]Scarfester[/b]: [color=red]7.25[/color]\[color=yellow]26[/color]\[color=green]3[/color]
So in this example Scarfester has painted for a total of 7 and a quarter hours, completed 26 V.V.P.s and has currently earned 3 P.R.S. points.

We will keep these running totals updated as the Challenge goes on! Just make a log in and log out post for each session, and we will monitor your progress. The 24-Hour Painting & Hobby Challenge has begun.

Let's see if I've done this right.
I'm going to (hoping to) paint 4 Uruk Hai scouts. Here they are in front of the screen:

Do I have to take the photo's of logging-in and logging-out in front of this same screen again or can I just take a picture of them in a photo-setup* as each stage goes by?

And is this code right?:

*I was asked to do a stage by stage tutorial for these for the One-Ring forum is all. It's no problem if i can't. I'll just take two photo's.

Alright this is my challenge for the day. 4 Forgeworld Plague Toads counting as Beasts of Nurgle in my Daemons army. They are pretty terrible models to paint so I think this challenge is perfect for them. Last toads took me 6 hours per model, hopefully I can do them a bit faster this time... My goal is 12 hours of painting and 20 V.V.P.s wish me luck!

I´m starting right now and will be painting in a GW store the whole day tomorrow (I'm not working). My challengetime ends 15 minutes after the store closes so thats perfect.

Unfortunately I'm probably not going to be able to really go for it and do an all-nighter this time, but I'll at least do a few hours. I'll work on my Warlock Engineer on 'flying carpet'.

Challenge updated!

Scarfester, saying that these 24-Hour Painting & Hobby Challenges are still going is giving us more credit than we deserve: we haven't had one of these things for over two years now, and you ran it!

Hannanibal, if it's no trouble to take an additional photo of these in front of the screen, then do that. If it becomes a real pain, though, I guess that since this challenge is so short, you can just use the other photos you're taking.

Oh well Olorin, at least there is one now. On the same day that I came back after ages, to think about assembling a few models whilst listening to the cricket. Almost like fate isn't it.....................

The Horned One smiles upon us this night!

Got my first dire wolf assembled now. as well.

Sleboda, do you really drink beer while you paint? Based on the precision of your brushstrokes, I would never have guessed it!

Update 1 from me. Worked till 17:45, then took a break for an hour to watch the cricket highlights and Joe Root scoring an excellent 178 not out.

Update picture. Bad angle, will work on it for the next one!

I've assembled one dire wolf and another 3 dire wolf heads.

The truth is, when I get to around 4 beers my painting gets waaaaaaay better.

It smooths out my motion and stops me from overthinking things.

I've now been kicked out of the bedroom, as the wife wants to sleep.
I'm sat in a darker room and moved all my paraphernalia in here.

Got 3 dire wolves assembled, a further dire wolf head and a bit of a skeleton warrior, for a change.
Need to finish this dire wolf really!
