it's too late. I'll look into this tomorrow. Thank you, Hanannibal, for another superb tutorial. *thumbs up*

Great! I'll get that fixed. Do I need to take another picture?

I must admit that in the last stage I kept going blinder and blinder to the small mistakes, so I'm glad you don't see more. :)

OK, finally got a chance to finish this Lesson. Probably wont get credit for it, but at least I can get some critique.

I do have a couple questions/comments.

First, and most importantly, how long should this step have taken? It took me about 4 hours total...I assume its because my fundamentals suck.

I totally agree with Bounty about a video for this. I think seeing it in person would help a lot with my technique. I've watched videos on youtube, but often they are either sped up or skip steps...I've read plenty of tutorials, but reading how to do something and doing it are two totally different things, especially with a task like painting a 1.5 inch tall ratman.

Second, out of curiousity, why did we do the fur part separately from the cloth? I would have thought doing all the stuff in one color at the same time would be easier.

Lastly, what was the purpose of the dual primer? What I've read/seen is that its supposed to help preshade the mini, while keeping highlights, but (unless I wasn't following directions properly) we were laying down solid basecoats, completely covering each part, and it didn't seem like we left the preshading...Is it just to help define sections of the mini?

I think I should have signed up for the Totally Non-Masterclass for Incompetent Painters...where is that post?

Rahotep. That looks excellent. No mistakes that I can see. Well done.

Onto the questions.

It takes as long as it takes. For me it was about half an hour with a hair-dryer speeding things up. If it takes you 4 hours to achieve a smooth, neat finish like this then that's how long it takes. There is no fixed time limit and rushing is just going to ruin your miniature.

A video would probably help everybody but having a full time job, 3 kids, this class, a gym membership I enjoy getting my money's worth from and projects of my own I have very little time to do much else.

I wanted you all to concentrate on each part separately. If the fur was bundled into the cloth section there was a risk of either part being rushed. The fur requires abstract painting so it gets a separate section all on it's own.

I went into the purpose and benefits of dual-priming this mini in the priming lesson. In this instance pre-shading isn't really a factor but it will with define the details and solid basecoats adhere better to a dual-primed miniature. No matter what miniature I'm painting now, no matter if I'm using a pre-shading+glazing technique or solid basecoats, I dual-prime. Even on scenery and terrain I dual-prime. It's especially effective on high-detail miniatures as it makes everything pop out and easier to paint.

Hope this helps.

Wow. Well done mate. I can't fault you on the tidiness of the basecoats. They look really good to me. Keep it up.*
The only thing is you may want to extend the black fur on the cheeks into the face. It looks slightly too short at the moment.

The picture could definitely be better but I'll let you off coz you're rushing :P
Any idea why your paint looks slightly grainy? I suspect it's something to do with the primer as I get that with my Humbrol primers. There's nothing to worry about though as I'm sure it won't affect the next layers.

Anyway.......Happy holidays mate!

*On second glance, is there some metallic paint on the hand? I can't tell. If so get tidying!
Thanks for the feedback sir.

Yes, that is a bit of metal on the hand. I will get that tidied up and also the black cheek fur extended.

I am unsure as to why the primer has made it grainy. I used Army Painter and thought the coat was nice and even until I painted these bases on :(. Hopefully as you say it wont affect the next layers.

I must be the slowest painter ever, as this step took me no less than two hours. It isn't perfect, but to me it looks good enough.
I'm affraid the sun's gone already, so I had to take crap pictures. I'm uploading them nonetheless because I'm not sure I'll have time to take pictures tomorrow during daytime but would love to get started on the next step in the evening.
I just noticed in these pictures that the tip of the tail has no less than two mistakes on it, a brown dot and a spot not painted, so I'll fix that first tomorrow.

Now onto the best parts!
