I have been doing the trim cleaning for about two hours now. Is that slow? Am I being too picky?
Im quite thankful I have a hobby lamp with magnifier in it. I realise there will always be mold lines but I assume I should only be going down enough so I cant actually feel the raised plastic.
What we do in life, echoes in eternity.

It takes as long as it takes. If you are taking 2 hours to get it just right then that's all good. Much better to be methodical now until you get the hang of it and you will find your own pace, whatever that may be, soon enough.
There's 2 weeks between each lesson so there is no rush whatsoever.

You should be going down enough until the mould line is as flat as the surrounding area. Remember, little scrapes, a few millimetres at a time and using the tip of the razor-sharp scalpel and they should come off no problem.

Keep at it mate.

One thing that I find useful is to check my knife blade before I start, and change it if it seems dull or old. I hate to throw away anything if it's still useful--I have miniature files and an X-Acto knife that I bought for myself in 1980, not to mention a few X-Acto knives and a pin vise that my father bought to build models with me when I was a small child, around 1970-72--but I do change my blades. A sharp blade works much better than a dull one.

I find that for larger areas, I use the back of the knife to scrape the line down. This eliminates the possible gouging of plastic that you need.... OR I use a fine grain, padded emery board to file larger areas flush. Works like a charm! I pick them up at Walmart for 3/$100 (you find them at hobby stores for $3+ each in California!)

Think you misplaced your decimal there sir. Either that or they're WAY cheeper in CA hobby shops.

Go for it Dan.
Yeah.... Two weeks might seem a long time in between lessons but getting a group of online hobbyists together is like herding cats :D

At least this way everybody, no matter what is going on IRL, will be able to complete the relatively short lessons and we'll all get there in the end.

I've got my guy cut out, shaved down and ready for gluing; just haven't glued him yet.
