Weeklong Painting & Hobby Challenge
Monday, February 4 to Sunday, February 11, 2013

Entrants
Hours logged\V.V.P.s completed\P.R.S. points achieved
Bounty: 2.5\0\0
Ghaznub: 13.5\0\3
Git-Git: 9\28\3
Kimzi: 1\0\0
Little Wolf: 6\0\1
Marbrook: 6.25\20\3
Skittarsnap: 7.5\22\3
Valmiir: 6\15\2

TOTAL: 51.75\85\15

It has been nine months since the UnderEmpire's last Weeklong Painting & Hobby Challenge, and we are more than due for another one. Whether you're working feverishly to complete your entry for the Golden Rat competition for Skaven Army of the Year, or are just looking to complete a few models, this is a perfect opportunity for you to work in real time with your fellow-rats around the globe, earning bonus P.R.S. points as you do so. Feel free to join in and log in as many sessions as you wish. Note that you do not need to start the event on Monday, but can join in when you like and go through the end of Sunday.

It is very important that you read THIS THREAD, which contains the rules on how to make an entry.

To join in the event, take of a photo of the models you are going to assemble and/or paint, on top of a newspaper from the current day with the date shown in the photo. If you don't have a newspaper, you can take a photo of the models in front of your computer, with the screen showing the start page of this event.

Once you have entered you can paint whenever you like, for however long as you like. Some may paint after getting home from work until they go to bed, while others might just do a few hours. Each time you start a new patch of hobby activity, take a photo at the start and post it here in this topic along with your accomplishments line. Then make a new post, also with a photo, when you finish. This is how you log in and out. Let us know how many hours (in quarterly hour increments) you did in the session, as well as how many vow value points (V.V.P.s) you completed (see any Painting Vows thread for details).

In the thread's initial post, we will keep a log of how much time you have completed, as well as V.V.P.s and your current number of P.R.S. points collected. Every time you make a post, you need to include a line showing your accomplishments. The line must be in the following format:

Name: # hours\V.V.P.s completed\current P.R.S. points collected

Example:

Sample

Scarfester: 7.25\26\3
Code:

[b]Scarfester[/b]: [color=red]7.25[/color]\[color=yellow]26[/color]\[color=green]3[/color]
So in this example Scarfester has painted for a total of 7 and a quarter hours, completed 26 V.V.P.s and has currently earned 3 P.R.S. points.

We will keep these running totals updated as the week goes on! Just make a log in and log out post for each session, and we will monitor your progress. Once it is Monday where you live, you are free to begin.

Allright I'll start! :)

When I got home I wanted to get some basecoating in before dark so I did take a pic but then sprayed it before uploading. Sorry about that :P.

Models I might do something with this week:

Well this is a bad pic :P:

And these need some brushing off :)

So as stated I have also already done a basecoat and some varnishing. I guess this is my 'logout' photo for that session:

And now I'm logging in again with the posted skaven pictures!

Little Wolf: 0.5\0\0

P.S. Here I go again with the questions. Wouldn't a 'login' pic be pretty much the same as your last 'logout' pic? (Unless you were working on other models, ofcourse...)

Your logout photo and your next login photo would be the same, if the photos didn't follow the rules and were all like yours! The rules, which I linked to and said that everyone had to read, state that each photo is to be taken in front of either the same day's newspaper with the date visible, or in front of your computer monitor, where you can see the date and the top of this thread.

Look at the last Challenge thread from April, if you need an example.

Ghaznub, your photo is perfect. Remember, you'll need to include the accomplishments line when you log out.

Heh, I guess I missed that, even though I did read the topic.

TBH it's a bit to much of a hassle for me then, as my sessions are typically just about an hour at a time. If each hour painting session takes 15 minutes taking & transfering pictures I'd rather just spend the time painting :P.

Good luck to the rest though :)

To be honest, I know it's a hassle, and that hassle is exactly why I haven't run one of these since Scarfester left. The problem is that Skrits and I haven't been able to come up with a better system. Maybe we should stop requiring any kind of timed proof altogether, and just put people on their honour in the same way we do with the Painting Vows. It's something to consider. But meanwhile, I thought we should try running one challenge with the existing rules to see how it would go.

In a way, Little Wolf, I think you were making it difficult for yourself. Don't photograph so many models at once: you're not going to get them all done in one session, anyway. Ghaznub has done challenges before, and he had the right idea, taking a single photo of just the models he was going to do in that session. All that I can ask is that you give it a try. After this is over, Skrits and I will take a look at how it went, and reevaluate the system to see how we want to do it next time.

Yeah I just took all the photo's because I thought there would be one 'starting session' and the other sessions I would just need to take a picture of what I did in that session.

Still, even if it's one picture, i have to move my models to my computer, upload the picture from my camera, resize it, upload it to a website, paste it here, and move the (wet) models back to the table... That will still take me 5 minutes each time.

I failed today's session miserably (didn't do anything after the basecoat) but I might try again tomorrow.

======

For a 'next' challenge, might I suggest just requiring a 'timed' photo the first time a model is shown? If you have seen a basecoated slave on monday, there is really no reason to assume the picture of the basecoated slave with some paint on it I post on tuesday was taken before monday... I guess TECHNICALLY you could cheat and post pictures of a previous batch of identical slaves, but why would anyone go through the hassle for some internet-points you can't even exchange for anything? If I really wanted that P.R.S. I would just cheat in the painting vows.

This way, you can just require one photo at the end of each session (after the initial starting photo), taken at the painting station. That would also serve as the starting photo for the next session.

I would not get rid of the photo's completely because it does motivate :)

Right that's me for the night, wish I could have done more but too tired, and tired eyes just don't paint well!

Being fast is great, but it looks like you did clean work. Speaking only for myself, I'd rather paint well than quickly!

And yes Olorin is right as far as my own pics go, I've done these challenges before and know what to do :)

I found it only takes a couple of minutes for myself now though as I have a photobucket app on my phone so I just take the picture with the ipad for the date/time reference (I know, another handy shortcut) then just copy the image straight from photobucket onto the forum via the PC.

It did used to take me longer when I've done the challenges previously, eg. Take the picture, upload it to the PC, reply in the thread... well only a few mins more then I guess :)

But I do enjoy these challenges when they come along, if I hadn't noticed there was one on earlier today I may not even have bothered doing the 2 hours painting.

And I must admit I have taken a little tip I saw from Hanners last year sometime, I've started listening to audiobooks while painting. It's amazing how it focuses your mind and you do actually take in the book at the same time, the human brain is a strange yet wonderful thing! :D

this is all too true, it just looks like a very tiny amount of painting done in the time it took, I guess it doesn't take account of the multiple coats.

That's great! Half an hour is always better than nothing, and it's good to see those primed Clanrats starting to get paint on them.
