In his defence. The old kits included much more resin parts. I think anyway. Just saying. I've bought several versions myself. But they were *not* 18€ a piece, that's for sure(*). around 10 maybe. Two for €18 maybe. (*)as sure as my memory can be at any rate. Sometimes you've got to pay for convenience though. Like when I bought GW's hotwire foam-cutter years ago. Literally impossible find something like that. People were looking at me like I was insane when I asked around. |

So I looked at the GW site earlier, and there are 2 other ones retailing for $41 US. There's a fairly good review of one of them here: http://gluedmyfingers.blogspot.com/2010/02/citadels-warhammer-basing-kit-review.html I think they're overpriced, but not everyone has the sculpting skills to create those things from scratch, and for everything that's included in those it's almost street value for GW stuff. Nothing's wrong with them. There's also nothing wrong with dipping an entire army. Both are excelent examples of getting things up to TableTop quality ASAP so you can play with them. For those who desire a deeper themed basing, but lack the skills or bit binz to create them themselves, these kits provide you what you need, for a premium price. 10 euro's for a basing kit would definitely be worth it. 15 euro's is about the max I would pay for this. Convenience definitely has it's price. 26 euro's is just ridiculous though. I have the old one lying in front of me right now (the one retailing for 19,50 currently) seeing as my lizardman buddy asked me to make his skirmish movement trays and well. The brass sheet is about the only thing that is truly special about it. The slate is just that: slate. It's not a tub of resin stones that are all perfect for your bases. No it's a tub of stones where quite a few are "unusable" (or at least hard to work with) for your bases if your unlucky. The resin pieces are not that special either if you have saved some bits. If you don't have a nice bits box they might be okay to have, a lot of it could have used more detail though. One skull sticking out some sand is something you really could have come up with yourself right? If you really want to do cool bases this is something I have been considering for my Skaven if I ever rebase my army costs 12 euro for these 15 bases. ![]() Edited by Skrits, 29th October 2012 - 10:15 PM.

No argument there. It's about twice as expensive as it "should" be. Comparisons are a bit iffy since they have changed the contents so much. For some unfathomable reason these are always "limited editions" (well used to be at any rate). Like they couldn't sell basing kits all year round? Now apparently you get 4 tubs one "spare". My kits came with 5 full tubs. That's what always puzzled us. Great idea GW! Wait, limited period only? WTH? |

Sometimes that whole limited edition is a big selling scam though. When the grass tufts were coming out the GW storemanager told us all they were limited edition and he wouldn't get many of them and let us pre-order them.

Wouldn't mind a few links if that is the case. Would love a few alternatives on that 15 piece diorama base.

Aww... man I don't want to... I keep running into these sellers all the time. I'll give it a shot... just a moment. WARPSTONE MUTATE POWER ACTIVATE: 5 minutes with Google. http://www.foundationsofwar.co.uk/catalogue/0011-square-bases.html http://dragonforge.com/Painting%20service/for%20sale/store%20directory/square_base%20Sets.htm There are more, the problem is that I run into them in the most unexpected places. But a lot of the conversion bitz sellers do bases as well. I'll keep updating as I have time to find stuff. But I have confidence I'll find that dozen, somehow... I find that those awesome resin bases are usually quite expensive though. (At least a euro per base). (Especially for a skaven army that needs so many...) Seeing how I currently use sand I picked up from the ground (= free) combined with a tiny bit of flock (5 euro's which will last me about 3 armies) and some tiles I make out of a sheet of hobby foam (1 euro which will last me more than the 1 army I use it for) which comes down to about 2 euro's for the complete army, I'm way to cheap for that I'm not counting the paint (ok, actually we use a LOT of scorched brown, which is the first layer of the sand. Sand loves scorched brown!) as those resin bases still need to be painted too.Mushrooms are pretty easy to make btw, ever since we started O&G I've been using my left-over Green stuff to make shrooms, so now we have more than we use.

Those are just Resin bases. What I meant is resin bases that when put together make a bigger scene, like the 15 piece diorama I posted.
