New basing kit out next month. It's ridiculously expensive (26 euro!), but it does have some fun stuff in it. Could do for some nice warpstone chunks.

Oh that's really cool! Mushrooms! :D
The price is a bit high but you can decorate a lot of bases with those bits.

Wow

What a horrible rip-off

That price is just insane. It's basically some plastic pics and green rocks combined with slate/rocks that can be found outside. It's pretty cool but that price is truly awful.

No the real shame is that they call it "The Under Empire" basing kit, include chunks of warpstone, then put a ferdinking NECRON on the cover!!!

Yeah at first I thought Skrits was making a joke of somekind with the name based on the contents.

Just as a note I was in a hobby store recently and realised the hobby of making your own jewellery has quite a lot of these "crystal" things that would be totally useful for us wargamers.

We all know Necrons were made by Clan Skyre, why are you guys surprised about them being on the cover? This is the whole reason there is no Skaven in 40k we would be way to powerfull if our servant robots (called Necrons by the man things tsk tsk) normally used for cleaning the tunnels are strong enough to beat most of the armies in 40k!

ummm...

http://www.wickes.co.uk/ballast-major-bag/invt/220111/ mixed ballast, makes nice model bases ala:

I have used less than 5% of that bag, which cost basically nothing, probably spent more getting to the shop and bag, certainly spent more on lunch.

warpstone? paint a rock or get a crystal kit from a hobby place

mushrooms? easy enough to make

if the pack was just the crystals in a range of sizes and shapes plus the mushrooms (ideally a pack of each individually) it'd consider it, but paying that price for grit..

Agreed I bought 3 kilograms of slate rock which I smashed to rubble of various size for 1,5 euros. I'm pretty sure I could get the entire content of this box for maybe 6 euro's tops if I made the mushrooms out of greenstuff. It is indeed ridiculous.
However you will be surprised how many people would buy this kind of stuff. One of my gaming buddies for example bought plastic toy lizards to represent his salamanders because he was to cheap to buy the real models. He did buy two of the old basing kit though which cost about 18 euros a piece or so?

They do look more like those Necron crystals than skaven warpstone. I never picture warstone as crystals, but more like big chunks of green rock.

Jesus Christ. That is the biggest rip-off I have ever seen. A tub of gravel and some cheap, green psuedo-crystals for 26 Euro. I can't believe there is anyone on the planet daft enough to buy it.

This sums up my thoughts almost perfectly. I was super excited when I saw them till I noticed the price tag a few pages further...

The victims this is aimed at are the kids who:

- think its gold because its from GW
- think they *must* have it because its in the pictures in WD
- have been told by GW that you buy everything, and make nothing

and the parents who:

- think buying this will buy them a few minutes quiet
- grandparents/parents who have been told they *need* this to go with the little box of plastic they don't understand but were told is *needed* etc

and people who value time more than money and want a half decent result without needing a massive "bitz" box or hoarding instinct when it comes to gravel in the fashion of a demented magpie attracted to green bits

from a marketing point of view the point is to try and stop people ever even thinking about wandering into a craft shop, to be the one stop shop..
Oh yes.. my youngest loves this sort of stuff..

he now knows better after having seen the previously noted big bag of grit

The only purpose of this kit is to make the other (a little less) overprized kits look like a fair deal.
