Multiple unit standards in a unit?; for visual purposes

No I'm not asking if I can buy more than one standard. This is a modelling question. Or maybe not a questions as such, mulling about an idea I had.

Basically I was thinking, "dang I have lot's of standards I can't use and I'd like to use all types of standards in the army, but with only such a few bannered units I will only use a couple". I was planning on colour-coding my Clanrats, major-colour + contrasting minor-colour, which would vary among units. Then I realised, I'm making different banners in all units, several are the icon type not cloth banner and I hadn't thought about colour coding it. But wouldn't it be nice if all units had a clear colour coded standard. Since I have lots of the banners, why not put two in each unit?

Historical wargames normally take this more scenic approach. To create the illusion of larger units, which I think could work well with Skaven. On the other hand having 1 standard, unlike other games, is a specific upgrade. Obviously leaving tournaments to the side where the requirements could be said to be more stringent what do ya'll think?

Obviously a broken unit would have both standards removed and replaced by a normal rat, if it matters anymore.

I think it would be a cool idea. And seeing as the normal standard cannot be in any rank but the front of the unit, there should be no confusion.

I do this with my bestigors to represent their despoiler rule.
GW, sucking the fun out of the hobby since 1999.

Never worry. Worst case scenario you die, and then there was no point worrying anyways.

Yeah it's a great idea. When I made one big unit of Clanrats I put all my banners in there.
It just looks cool!

yup

I think it works as long as you don't have them both in the front rank. You also have to make it look like it's not just being lazy and you have too many IOB command groups or something. Your idea sounds like it will be good though.

This also helps with the lack of height in most skaven armies. The skaven clanrats and slaves are so similar looking that a big horde can look very boring. This is also making me want to add a rat ogre or two in my units to break up the look.

I think it is a great rag tag symbolic way to show the clans coming together to form an army.
However I think fillers should be reserved for slave units.

That is however two good motivations for doing it. :P

Now of course I have no problem challenging pretty much anyone to a hobby measuring test if it comes to seeing who's paid their dues.

Presumably you also have a carry case with wheels, and a van with a loading ramp/tail lift?

guessing you have a gaming table you can stand on, indeed your opponent could also stand on, and juggle elephants without it moving either..

To be fair for fillers, I used ogres as fillers in my empire army so you could use them in any unit, I don't see why not.

To be fair it didn't, what's the problem with trying to cut down costs, I had tonnes of state troops to do and I had a box of ogres randomly, empired them up and they looked pretty sweet. :D

I've seen ogres used for empire as well, there are some beastly conversions and paint jobs that make it work.

plus, maneaters sometimes served as mercenaries so it doesn't mess up things lore wise.

Yeah I use two standards on my bell bunker. One on each corner. And since my BSB often sits mid unit (next to bell) I often have three. It just makes the unit look a bit better. I also use 2/3 hand weapons and 1/3 spears on all my clanrats and slaves to give the units some more pokiness.

@Lotan you mean in your opinion it didn't, to me it looks like you couldn't be arsed had a few spar models so what the hell if I have some MI mixed with my empire who's going to care? Well clearly not you but to me it looks like your proxy models from any race.
