Hello fellows,

as in the topic explains these two Packmasters are my first ever painted models and I would like to share them with people who specialize in Skaven to hear some cries of constructive criticism :) I know that the bases are not done yet but I am very new to the hobby and still don't have some of the stuff. So here they are:

Packmasters are fun. I just put one together right before reading your post. He's gonna be a Thrott.

Your model is pretty neat. I see all the colors are there and even some details picked out. Great start. You'll find basing makes models look like magic.

Those are your first ever painted models? :o
They're better than what I have right now, 3 years after joining the hobby :P

I second the use of basing though: make sure to pick a tone that complements the existing colour scheme.

I agree, these are on par with (if not better than) mine and I've been in the hobby a while. The only things I can see that needs any attention are the mold lines.

Playing skaven to minimize randomness is like going to prom with your sister, you can do it if you really want, but in the end everyone will still laugh even if you do get lucky.

I always take at least one Warpfire Thrower. You can't always rely on your opponent to do massive damage to your troops. Sometimes, you just have to do a job yourself.

I was wondering whether to use green static (?) grass for the bases with the sides painted with some kind of brown or to find something more brown for the bases like hmmm grass but in a savannah? Any tips? I suppose I will pursue a similar theme for the plague monks with more of a greenish attitude towards the cloths and the clanrats will be a mixture of dark green and red.

I'll try to put more heart to fighting the mold lines but sometimes I do not see them until the first colours are on the figure :-/

Very nice! So much better than my first few models, lol. Your paint is in the right place and the metal parts look very good!

You can get different colours of static grass from Woodland Scenic, so maybe they will have a colour that suits your basing needs. Personally I think green would looks great with your current colours.

Green would provide a nice contrast to the cloths so I suppose I will go for it. ;)

I might be stating the obvious, but make sure to put something below the grass - a thin layer of drybrushed sand below the grass looks so much better than just the plain base!

Hi.

Sorry you had to wait such a long time for a reply but some so to say real life issues kept from the spare time on the web lately.

So, the cloth. I put a basecoat of Ushabti Bone on to it. Well at least two layers to cover the Chaos Black undercoat. After that I have used a very large amount of Agrax Earthshade so to make achieve an effect of stains. Skavens are not supposed to be clean in my opinion so I figured a dirty cloth would be fine. Last but not least I have drybrushed it with Ushabti Bone. That's all
