I like them. They're simple and effective, with the bright green static grass providing the complementary color to the red on the figures. The weapons look great, but I would think of them as blackened steel. Obsidian is a volcanically-formed glass, and while it's very hard and works well for blades and scalpels, it also shatters very easily the moment it hits something, so it would never work in combat. I realize that various fantasy worlds do have obsidian armor and weapons, but those are always enchanted: a mere Clanrat wouldn't have a magical weapon. But the weapons do resemble forge-blackened steel which hasn't been polished, and, as such, are appropriate for Clan Volkn.

They look very good.

I like the black blades on some of your weapons will break up the blocks of Rats very well I think.

Minor quibble on one of your Rat Ogres there is a huge mold line on one of the back spikes. Maybe it is easier to see in a picture and not a issue, but there you go.

Thanks for the critique! Yeah the clan rats are just a test group for the volkn theme and its my first try at doing the obsidian but I think it turned out ok. I was following the fluff (I know its not possible to use it in combat effectively) I just liked the story behind it. And yes, that is a mould line I didn't notice....DO'H!

I really like the way you painted the weapons, that's awesome! How did you do that?
Everything else looks very nice too. Nice colours and nice basing, great furnace! I really like what I see.

Next step would be to start removing mould lines from models before painting. It really helps make them look just a bit more real.

I'm quite fond of the Warpstone on the Rat Ogres, as it really adds a nice contrast to the rest of the model.

Regarding the photographs, are you taking the pictures under white light? There seems to be some colour over-saturation, though I can't figure out if its from the paint scheme or the camera.

To answer all questions in no particular order:

Yes they are photographed under a white light its the only thing I have to work with when it gets dark and I wanna post stuff,

I did the obsidian blades by basing with chaos black, doing highlights in necron abyss, fenris grey and mordian blue then washing in azumen blue and badab black with a fnal edge highlight of space wolves grey and then glossing!

I do normally file the mould lines off I just missed that one :/

Thankyou for such kind comments :)

A simple fix for white light saturation is to take the pictures inside a dark-shaded box of some sort (cardboard will do, a black GW army case is better).
