Lost an article on Warpstone painting...; ...or perhaps imagined it entirely

Does anyone else remember a detailed (step-by-step photos) article, maybe on GW's website, on painting the warpstone on one of the warmachines (can't remember if it was catapult, cannon, etc.)? I was thinking there was one before GW purged so many articles from its website, or maybe I saw it somewhere else and can't remember. :/ Either way, I figured this would be the place to ask and try to find it again.

They had some decent warpstone step by steps on both the warp light cannon and the doomwheel painting guides though they are no longer up on the site. My best guess would be they were removed since the paint range was changed and the guide is now inaccurate.

That's a good reason for dumping it, but I wish I'd saved it, anyway. I need all the guidance I can get. :P

Prime white or black, depending on if you want light or dark stone.
Paint it green.
Use a lighter green to dry brush the raised bits.
Wash with a Green Ink, Wash or shade.
Very lightly highlight the raised edges in a slightly lighter green.

OR some variation there in.

I've got the GW article on painting the doomwheel if you'd like their actual technique - the one I actually use is from the white dwarf article on painting the Vermin Lord, If you want me to write up either of these painting guides I'd be more than happy to!

I thought that the GW Doomwheel painting guide was great, and have always regretted that I didn't copy it (or even paint my Doomwheel) when I had the chance. It had never occurred to me that they'd take it off the web while the model was still current and viable. If you have that, I'd love to see it.

would love the screaming bell guide as well. The rat ogre tutorial there was superb.

I would love the Screaming Bell guide, too, but he didn't mention that he had that one. I recall that the wood in the Doomwheel guide was different than the wood in the Screaming Bell guide (the individual planks were different colors), as was the warpstone, which was particularly dark, building (I think) from a basecoat of Dark Angels Green mixed equally with Chaos Black. I thought both of those guides were terrific, particularly in how they had you paint the models in sub-assemblies, and I really miss them. The Hell Pit Abomination guide wasn't nearly as good.

Couldnt agree more. The only thing I didn't like was THE way they did the banner in the doomwheel guide it would have been so much cooler if they had explained how to do the banner I have on my doomwheels which is à recreation of the banner that is on the doomwheel box.

The doomwheel guide did 4 or 5 different washes for the wood I think it was great. The metal was à bit silly mixing bronze with tin bits and scorched brown 1:1:1 made à colour that was pretty much exactly the same as just plain tin bitz :p

I printed them both out, but I must have them saved somewhere, they were really good guides and the doomwheel was done just by washing different panels of wood different colours - the joys of the citadel washes :D . . . I'll try to find them on my computer but I can write up any techniques in particular if I can't find them in my documents.

ps. I'm really annoyed I forgot to save their painting daemons technique for plague bearers :KA-BOOM: I used it on some nurglings last year but I don't remember how I did it :'(

I've found the articles for the Screaming bell and Doomwheel; I copied them both into word documents - I am not sure of the best way to get them to you all though, I'm not the best with technology ^_^ , I guess you could PM me with your email if you want a copy and I can send them to you as an attachment - if you have any better suggestions on how to get them to you all then that would be most welcome!

From time to time I'm still getting the occasional PM from someone looking for the guides (hello if you are such a person- your search-fu skills are impressive! ;) ) so to make things easier for anyone looking just email me at: lukeh-w@hotmail.co.uk and ask me for the guides; I don't check my PMs that frequently so it should make things quicker this way.
