Ok, I have a lot of IOB slaves, and am thinking I may not want so many with shields (those folks at ETC seem to have majority non-shielded slaves). Does anyone else have the situation where they have to de-shield a slave from the IOB set? If so, how have you done it? Edited by onlurker, 1st August 2012 - 04:01 AM.

Im sorry to say i dont think de-shielding the slaves will be all that easy, as they are sculpted on it will leave a rather huge mess of plastic trying to remove the shields. |

yeah man you would have to carve off the shields with an exacto knife or something and then try to resculpt the arm and side of the model. not really plausible. if you're worried about not wanting them to have shields in a game or something, just say they don't have shields, don't pay the points for it, and don't play with the shield stats. models don't have to be exact. for instance, my spear wielding clanrats don't always actualy have spears. or my assholish block of 2x20 slaves with slings don't actually have sling arms. |

TECHNICALLY you must have "a Majority of your models" properly equipped. Most people interpet this as 50%+1 model. So if you're running 40 slaves, you need at least 21 without shields (or with slings) or you're in violation of the rules. How often you play and at what levels determine how applicable this is to you. I'm going to agree that it's not a "simple" conversion to pull thier shields. |

I just used the IoB models as my Clan Rats and gave the poor guys shields. Then I bought regular Clan Rats boxes and painted them up as my Slaves. Sometimes when I want to run more or less Slaves / Clan Rats I will do like Bounty said and use about 25% of the wrong models mixed in. Usually more to the rear so they are more out of sight and get removed first. In all the games I have played nobody has even looked twice at the units no less said anything. We are just lucky that our two main core units look look the same. Before you say anything Cap I love Giant Rats also but do not consider them "Core" per se. |

Neither does GW. Specifically says "doesn't count as core". We have 4 Core units: Rats with no Armor Rats with light Armor Rats with Heavy Armor Nightrunners. When I build my units I typically run 25% with spears, 25% with shields, 10% with shields and spears. The Majority then is Handweapons no shield, but only 40% are made of those precious models. |
