Hey, so I just got all my skaven models and I'm ready to paint. I was thinking of doing my clanrat's robes orange. What do you guys think? Will it work? And what paints should I use, I'm thinking just buying orange paint from GW and then experimenting...

You will need different shades of orange for highlighting/shading. Talk to the staff there, they all have decent knowledge of painting and the new range of paints and will help you out and give you some pointers. |

Experimenting would be the best on some practice models- especially if you haven't worked with this color before. I would say you could try to ink it with brown and see how that works- though it might really make the orange a bit darker. Just experiment and see what you like. and like Ic said- the staff here can give you some really good pointers!

Go for it, sounds like it could work if you get a good colour scheme going, maybe creams, greys and browns for some of the fabrics? However, before listening to me, my last attempt at an orange army (tau) was a fail as they look so garish I had to redo them all. Would like to see some sort of Shaolin themed plague monks! Put some pics up after you've had a few goes at your first ones...

I'd start with a mid-tone brown as the bascoat, and add orange to it for sucessive layers of highlight. If you basecoat orange and highlight from there, it's going to be garish and bright. |

Orange should be fine, between a few washes to dirty it up and a highlight or two I believe it could look pretty cool. |

Go for orange! My favourite colour by far, seconded by warpstone green! I've used a mix of Blood Red, Blazing Orange and Vermin brown, to achieve a darker, rustier orange. Highlighted with Blazing Orange up to Sunburst Yellow on the edges. And shaded with Light Walnut shader. Check out my army blog at the warseer forums (link in my signature) for examples. I've chosen to limit the orange to the hoods, using bleached bone robes for contrast. Orange is a dominant colour, something to keep in mind, to much of a sharp orange can be a bit to strong. |
