Skavenslaves and Clanrats; What are some good ratios for the two?

I'm still new to trying to learn how to play Fantasy myself- and I'm still trying to build my army.
But I've always been curious about how to balance out skaven slave and clan rat ranks.

For a new army, how many units would suffice for each?
And how many slaves/clan rats would you put in a unit? I've been told around 25 to 30, but I'm not entirely sure.

What do you recommend?

It depends on the point level of game and the purpose of the unit really. at 1k points I run 30-man slave units as "tar pits", but at 2k, I wouldn't dream of bringing fewer than 50-strong for the same role. Similarly, a Clanrat bunker doesn't want to go above 20-25 (Full SiN + a little insurance) because the unit shouldn't get into combat, but if I have clanrats pushing my Screaming Bell, I take a unit of 40 (or more) because the unit WILL end up in combat somewhere around the end of the game, and will be a magnet for mayhem until then.

Basically, ask yourself

a) What is the purpose of this unit?
b) How many rats, at minimum, will it need to have to achieve this purpose?
c) How many rats, at most, will it take to achieve this purpose

Run between b and c, depending on how vital the unit's job is and how many points you have to throw around

I was wondering the same myself :).

(Pfft Gixit, I don't want to hear 'think for yourself', I just want a clear winning strategy  ).

Also, I hear on the clanrat sprues there are more and less armored rats, that people usually divide into clanrats and slaves. How many 'clanrats' vs how many 'slaves' are there? (Or is there is no clear distinguishment? In that case, coudl people give personal examples of how they divided it?)

The one and only.
Personally I don't run slaves at all. In my usual 1250 games I run two units of 40 clanrats each and I love them. :D

My best tip would be to try things out. You can copy a list from the internet and experiment with that of course, but nothing helps with learning as much as just trying things for yourself. And don't be afraid to try something unusual or silly, it helps you understand how the units work and use them to their full potential.

Mutate for Little Wolf:
On the Clanrat spruces you get 10 armoured ones and 10 naked ones. People usually use the naked ones as slaves and the others as clanrats. The differences are very easy to spot once you see them.

Thanks everyone. :)

Personally, I'm trying to make a 2500 point Army, and since it's themed (Plague Monk) I don't just want to use all special units.
I have little to no idea on how to make a balanced list that includes clan rats/slaves.
