Greetings!

I am a little uncertain about how to intrepid the ERRATA/FAQ.

On page 2 the ERRATA says, “…The Doomwheel unleashes three bolts of warp lightning”.

On page 7 the FAQ says, “Must a Doomwheel roll to hit with each “Zzzzap” bolt?” Answer: NO

What does this mean? Do I have to roll “to hit” using the Engineers BS (and this covers all three bolts”, ore does the Zzzzap bolts “auto hit”?

Each bolt auto-hits, you roll one artillery die to determine the strength for all the bolts, you roll to wound for each bolt one at a time, armour saves are allowed if the str doesn't negate the armour, each bolt inflicts its multiple wounds onto one model (if it has more than one wound), if you kill the unit with the first bolt the second targets the next closest and so on.

  • Check for Panic

  • Find Nearest Unit
  • If in range, HIT! resolve wound
  • Check for Panic
  • Repeat 2-4
  • Repeat 2-4
Iirc you roll the arty dice after finding nearest target and deciding not to restrain.
And panic check only if necessary from casualties. I know it's pedantic but I don't want to confuse the OP.

DOOM WHEEL SHOOTING

  • Take Ld test if you wish to avoid shooting
  • Roll Artillery Die for Strength of hit
  • If in range, HIT! resolve wound
  • Check for Panic if appropriate
  • Repeat 1, 4, 5
  • Repeat 1, 4, 5


Of course I have a question of my own now. Can you only take the Ld test at the start? If you kill the nearest enemy with the first shot can you then test to restrain the other 2 bolts?

Correct, the dice is rolled after you determine the closest target and whether or not you wish to restrain. But, having said all of that, with pre-measuring being a game function, this should really never be much of an issue for you.

No, it's an all or nothing thing. If you unleash the Zzap all three go. If you restrain, all three stop. There is no partial option written into the methodology.


A-typical Old Post:
Back in 5th edition you measured from each lightning rod (one on the front, one on the left flank and one on the right flank of the Doomwheel and each had a random range 3D6") so with weird positioning all 3 bolts could hit 3 different targets without wiping any of the others out. Way more complicated but way more fun too.
