Evening all, Not sure if this should go here or in the army lists as it isn't a post to ask for critique on my list but more to check if I have been too cheesey with this build. Only ask as I tabled my oppenent by end of turn two and one of the guys at my club made a really sarcastic comment about being nice and fluffy and not at all overpowered. My list was - Lords Grey Seer w/dispell scroll, foul pendant Heros Chieftan - BSB Warlock Engineer w/doomrocker Plague Priest w/flail, talisman of preservation and plague furnace Core 40 Slaves with spears & shields 38 clanrats (bunker) with WFT 30 Clanrats Special 40 Plague Monks w/musician, standard bearer & plague banner Rare 2 Warp lightening cannons 1 HPA Is this too much at 2000K I've always been a wood elf player so having a choice of lots of different units and powerful builds is a novelty I'm still adjusting too but whilst my oppenent was very gracious in defeat, I don't want to come across too cheesey incase peeps don't want a game in future. Any feedback is gratefully recieved |

Depending on who you're playing with, you'd like to give your BSB a storm banner. Drop the spears on the slaves, they're there to stop thing, not to kill. 30 clanrats not being a bunker unit seems a bit useless, they're not that good in melee. Rat dart units (5 rats + pakcmaster) may be useful redirectors or flankers Gutter runner you may want them for warmachine haunting. P.S. your list is not too cheesy, at 2k point I usually field 200+ slaves and 2 HPA, 40 monks and like 3 warlock enegneer with all the magic items i can afford |

That is definitely not too cheesy compared to what a skaven army can run at that level. Also, this should be in the army lists section. |

I have awoken, so have my pets. My blades will be upon you soon. Then you will be bathed in warp-fire. *Laughs evilly*

Not really cheesy, but when nothing goes wrong you will dominate with this list. I have never had nothing go wrong. The 30 clanrats are there to fill core requirements, because I'm showing 211 slaves of core (base best guess) for core, and he needs 250 slaves worth at 2000 points. |

I can't help but picture a wizened, grey engineer in a chair covered in rockets and warpstone. |

I don't really think it's too cheesy. But as bounty says there's a lot of nasty in there if it all comes off. I might suggest dropping the doomrocket, or maybe just not firing it unless you really need it as that is a bit overpowered. But we're all skaven players, we would say that. Maybe you could post it on a more general warhammer forum like dakka dakka and see what people there think. |

It's Skaven to be cheesy Why is there so many of these threads, if the next Skaven army book writer visits this forum, we will get heavily punished (Just remember what happened to the night runners/gutter runners from 6th to 7th, definitely not a coincidence) Everyone talks about cheesyness in a bad way all the time... Skaven IS cheesy, but HIGHLY unreliable, and most of our regular troops sucks! It's all fluff, we should be as cheesy as possible... |

No Skaven is overpowered. I think they are the number one or two army in warhammer right now. And you can build a skaven army that is not really that unreliable at all. In fact they might be one of the most reliable armies. I would have no problem if a game designer read some of this stuff and thought about it for the next skaven book. I would rather have a balenced army book for 8th edition, rather than the current one filled with some very overpowerd units/magic items/rules. I have more fun trying to with with tactics and good play as opposed to just destroying my opponent with a doomrocket. I think this thread was perfectly acceptable. There is nothing wrong with trying to make sure your opponent has a good game if you are playing with friends. |

I think it could be considered cheesy if you swap the unit of thirty Clanrats for two times fifty slaves and up the unit of forty too fifty. as it is a slightly above average player should be able to beat it.

This list isn't cheesy at all, and in some ways, it's even pretty inefficient. For example, for the same cost as 40 Skavenslaves with spears and shields, you could take 60 Skavenslaves. You left the warpstone spikes off the Hell Pit Abomination, which are devastating against armies like Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings. Plus, there are no Gutter Runners or Giant Rat darts, and the army has relatively few models by Skaven standards. Skaven are an effective army, and you have a mostly good list, but there's nothing cheesy about it. Are you supposed to fill up on Night Runners, Rat Swarms, Jezzails, Ratling Guns, and Rat Ogres, just to prove that you can win with an inefficient list? You don't have to play at anything less than your best. For me, unless your list really violates the spirit of Warhammer--for instance, featuring multiple Hell Pit Abominations when even one is supposed to be so rare--I don't think that anyone can call it cheesy. |

You can call a lot of skaven lists overpowered. Double abombs is not the only one. But I do agree that his list is perfectly fine. And playing cheesey can be totally okay depending on the situation. Bringing a hard as nails skaven list to game night every time with your pals might not work out that great though. |

Thanks for all the feedback guys and as I said in the first post I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going OTT as after 7yrs of playing wood elves I'm not used to being able to effectively plan a robust army list ![]() Main thing with this battle was I got lucky on several occasions i.e. WLC not blowing up and rolling strength 8, getting skitterleap, the doomrocket not blowing up the engineer and landing just where it was intended, not to mention my opponents terrible dice rolls in combat and his IF miscast turn one. If half of these had gone the other way there wouldn't of been an issue. Also as is mentioned on several occasions we are devious and sneaky and playing fair isn't the Skaven way so in the spirit of fluff I am doing the right thing Looking back it was just a stupid comment from a guy at our gaming group who has taken some pretty bent lists himself (nothing mentioned about his 100+ NG with bows and posion attacks spamming 60+volley fire shots a turn) so meh, I'll keep this list ofr a while and see how we get on. |
