One can only hope that someone like Phil Kelly gets to write the book.
He is not really good with fantasy books. Half of the Beastmen book was his work.
Sorry, long term 40k player making the transition here, although Kelly still has to be better than Cruddace
Kelly has never written a fantasy book that has any semblance of internal balance.

No idea if this is true, but supposedly the person who was tapped to write Tomb Kings and Empire is slotted to write the new Skaven book. I have no idea if this is correct, the person who told me this is in no way tied to any sort of internal GW source that I'm aware of.

Ofcourse with as big a let down as TK turned out to be, maybe he was just messing with me.

I find it highly doubtful that info would be out already. There are many armies set to get updates before skaven.

I say this is 100% false. That guy may end up writing empire but there is no way your buddy knows that.

Agreed. I also don't know why anyone would bother proliferating such information without a reliable source. Such actions would only serve to inflame the already tenacious rumour-mill with Chinese whispers.

I think he was probably just screwing with you, since Robin Cruddace has become the whipping boy among the current writers, and nobody wants him to touch their army.

It beggars belief that GW would even be thinking about a Skaven update at this point in time, let alone assigning an author.

Because it's obvious that some major changes are going on in the game right now, and eventually those changes are going to make their way to Skaven and potentially how they operate. If people want to discuss what they think or what they've heard they're absolutely welcome to do so, this is a thread geared towards that exact conversation. If you can't understand why people would want to have that dialogue about potential changes based on observations from the current writing staff of other books or from the current 8th edition army rules being pumped out, then this probably isn't the thread for you.

It does no harm in talking about what could happen or what might change, or even who might be the ones doing the changing.

And Decker, I think you're right about some of the Clan items, I think we could see a decent number of those could go to the scavenge pile or get built in as unit entry specific equipment choices instead of being kept as magic items.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that it does. The rampant wishlisting threads on most Warhammer feeds an incredible surge of false rumour-mongering that is completely unnecessary.

Alas, I cannot stop people from doing this though, so I will vacate the thread if that is where the topic leads. Try to keep what I've said in mind though, please? A lot of people don't particulary yearn to pick apart the real info from the garbage X months from now when a new book is a serious consideration.

A blood curling cough a day, keeps the assassins away

The only hope i bear for the new Skaven book is clan themed Lords, stuff like high warlocks or return of the plague pontifex(A thing i would personally welcome ). Stuff like that would be awesome!
But i feel that in a way Skaven have gotten alot of their 8th edition stuff. Bigger models (bell and furnace), doomwheel, catapult and abomination rares (which makes that almost all 4 clans have a themed rare choice) + new weapon teams.

Yes we will get a magic item cut, although they might keep the scavenge pile + magic items still giving us some combinations.

I'd take Phil Kelly over Cruddance any day. The New VC book clearly shows he's improving from his old Chaos/Beastmen Codex times, while Cruddance must be the epitome of "internal imbalance".

I just hope Vermintide becomes a Vortex. Would not make any sense if it wasn't. Curse is probably going to be revamped completely.

I think the conversion of the Skaven spells to having actual spell types is a safe bet, Scarr.

I think out of all the army books out there, Skaven is not in dire need of amending to fit into the new edition. From what I have been hearing in my local gaming clubs and online the Skaven armies are actually benefiting a lot from the new rules. I will have no doubt that some units will be toned down and balanced for the future.

Every new rules for armies Games Workshop has been trying to make them more appealing and the easiest way was to make them easier to play. The thing is the company cannot keep doing this and eventually some armies need toning down. This is all theory and I can be very wrong.

The army that needs a good update maybe Bretonnians, as they are a charge based army with average initiative and their lance formation not so effective now with the introduction of supporting attacks or Wood Elves.

Either way it will be interesting over the course of the years.

I can offer some slaves for that purpose!

I think that it is way too early to even begin thinking about changes to our army book. And at worst, my rats hide and sulk in their tunnels as we did through most of 7th edition, and I put on my Empire feathers and codpiece.
