Right, I want my packmasters to be in the front line. Let me rephrase that. I want a pack of about 70 giant rats , 4 packmasters and my alltime favourite, Skweel gnawtooth. (He's my favourite because of his name. ) My question is this. Packmasters have a handweapon and a whip which counts as an additional weapon. This means...indeed, ...2 attacks each. Now I would put my horde in a 10 by 7 formation. The rats get to attack in 4 rows because of their special rule. The packmasters however would stand in the front line and get 2 attacks each. Doing this propperly, I would get 43 attacks + the ones Skweel has. thats about as many as the Plague monks would get. Lets do this. I put my giant rats in front of a unit of... hmm... lets say... High elf ... swordmasters. (Or something else...) If the highelves attack the unit , chances are that they will hit and wound some of my models. (I am a very optimistical person...) Now, If i would put 1 giant rat, 1 packmaster, 1 giant rat, 1 packmasters... and so on. And my opponent does not specifically say "Hey, I am hitting the packmasters !!!" (I dont even think he can choose, can he? Since they arent characters). Now, If I have to remove my casualties, I have to take the ones in the last row...meaning Giant rats, right? So my opponent would do , lets say 10 wounds... this means I have to remove 10 giant rats in close combat and no packmasters, right? Or am I being a bit too optimistical here? I know it doesnt count for Skweel, since he is a character and they can choose to aim for him instead. (I must say, I would only use this trick if Skweel got the poisoned attack special rule. For the +4 regen and the extra attack, its of little use to have the packmasters in the front row. ) |

Packmasters have a separate stat-line, so models in base contact with them can only attack Packmasters, and only they would die. An interesting trick to try is to have a large block of rats, with 10 packmasters up front in horde formation. The rats get their attacks, but in the first round you can only lose at most 10 packmasters. That said, be careful about losing SiN if all the packmasters die, but if Skweel is in the unit he should be a way around that. |

Yeah, what bladder said. The Opponent has to declare before he rolls which attacks are directed at packmasters, and which are at Giant rats, based on who's in base to base. Then you remove from the rearmost available unit. Now that's not to say that putting 6 packmasters at the front of a horde, and letting them die in your victory isn't a nice trick. That way they loose combat and break, you don't have any PM left so you get Swift Stride which is an extra die to run them down, then you've got a crazed rat unit charging about causing Chaos mid board! |

Skweels ability does not affect the pack masters so if you did get poison then put pack masters at the front you would be trading the poisoned attacks for a few more non poisoned ones |

Since no1 has mentioned it a rank of pack masters at the front actually get more attacks as whips count as additional hand weapons. | |
