So at the end of last summer I'd managed to assemble and paint my not too small force of ratmen, as pictured below.![]() Now, I've decided, as summer rapidly encroaches, after a foray into the Ogre Kingdoms and under the lands of Bretonnia, to spend the summer with my beloved sneaky backstabbers. It's been a year since I've been gone and maybe I'm a little crazier, I dunno. Anyway, what started as a plan to actually represent my slaves with clanrat models instead of whatever I have lying around has become something bigger. At some point, I decided to get another 40 stormvermin. Then a unit of 40 nightrunners, even though I never use them, I might sometime, so why not. It was at this point I realised that with another 40 nightrunners I'd be able to field over 500 bodies. But I thought "I need more". So I'm reaching out to your wonderful minds. What crazy ideas can you come up with befitting of a skaven force? I have at least 80 of each infantry unit (not including the aforementioned storm vermin and night runners), so really I'm needing more monster and machine based ideas. Maybe a fleet of 5 or 6 Doomwheels? A factory-full of weapons teams? What would you buy if price was no object? |

With the strengthening of Monstrous Infantry in this edition, why not go for a big unit of 18 Rat Ogres? ![]() Throw in Throt and Skweel for a nigh-invincible Core unit. When they roll Regeneration nothing will stop them. |

I was planning on bumping the up to 12, but 18 seems like a better number rightly enough. That would be a 6 wide horde, yes? |

Yep, the classic 6x3 Horde ![]() Throt and Skweel form a nice addition on either side to engage the wide units, or stay out of the way the rest of the time

Maybe. Someone pointed out that the MI Rank Rule specifically states "solely" so the PM bugger the works. Now it's a question of 10 models or 200mm as the frontage. Also, Master Moulders and Squeel need to be in the front Row. If money were no object, but skill was, I'd be building a Moulder Horde: Throt 2x 40 Giant Rats with 10 PM 18 RO with 5 PM 18 RO with 11 PM and Squeel 2 Abombs Rat Ogres would be an even mix of the Blood Bowl, Mordenhiem, Old Metal, IoB, Abomb arm conversions etc. If skill were no Object I'd start working on a per clan sample of every unit. ie. Moulder Abomb, Skryre Abomb, Pestelins Abomb, Eshin Abomb. Moulder Warlord, Skryre Warlord.... That would be a metric tonne of conversion work though, including some potential scratch builds. |

Make a few warlitters I'd say. Also people have been talking about 3x15 gutter runners in some other topic. |

Interesting I have created a few rough clan theme armies that I would love to build one day. I doubt it would ever happen but who knows. I was kinda thinking of just painting the slaves and clan rats in a general color scheme to use them for all the clans but that sucks in a way too. So does anyone know the answer to the rat ogre horde issue? I have seen other forums that make strong arguments that they can be in a horde. I tend to think that gw would agree. |

My personal position is that Horde width is determined by 10 regular unit width, and larger troops in a unit count as the number of displaced units for ranks and horde. This means you need at least 2 RO and a PM to form a rank, that 5 RO make a horde, and that 2 ranks of RO count as 4 ranks for Rank bonus. This is not, as you'd suspect, a particularly popular position especially among my opponents. I feel it is supported though by the rules for Oversized Character bases, the rules for the Bell/Furnace, and the rules for mixed units presented in the lizardman book. |

Personally If I had a force that big and wanted to do something ridiculous I would probably field two furnanes both with 11 wide ranks of plague monks and get 5 or 6 more warp lightning cannons just to scare people if nothing else. But thats just me. |
