Mine, as compared to

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440004a&prodId=prod1530030a

mine has more init, more weaponskill, but moves slower (but it flys) and theres has armor piercing. mine do a "mini stomp" (d3) and mine are rare choices whereas theres are special. mine also cause terror rather than fear.

THOSE WERE MY IDEA FIRST!!! I HAVE DATES AND TIME TO PROVE IT!!! DAMMIT!!!

Oh btw all this is on GWS main site, so no rules violation. nvm....

and also btw, did anyone notice...

VALTENS BACK BI^@#$!!!

going to have to get some of the plastic engineer's rifles to convert some jezzails :rogre:
I'm thinking somewhat the same thing, but instead of usurping that master engineer's pistol for my chieftain. It looks sufficiently rugged enough to be modded for a Skaven.

Valten's back?
VALTEN'S BACK?
WTF? So Sniktch DIDN'T kill him? Oh god....Who wrote this new Empire book BTW? Maybe he is just a special character available for games but still "dead" in the timeline if you get what I mean. I dearly hope so. I have a sneaky feeling he has been written back to life.

VALTEN'S BACK?
WHAT?!
Cheeky man-things! Snikch or Deathmaster Mik killed him good.
I have a sneaking suspicion they are resetting the timeline for SoC Mk II.
So far they've brushed over several details in the timelines and I believe in SoM they even hinted that a great storm of chaos was coming... <_<
As much as I would like us to make another large bomb, mutate giants, and kill saints, we've already done that!

While no longer a living member of the Empire, you can always use the Valten miniatures as a characterful alternative to your Captain or General of the Empire.

Phew!

Its all up on the GW sight (the UK one)

I like what I see, I just think that there are other races that deserve the update, like, say, Brettonia.

A blood curling cough a day, keeps the assassins away

IT isn't the first time GW has placed a special char in the books that according to the fluff has already died. I mean Vlad or Azagh for one are dead as a mice, but still playable.

Cool, so now GW can "justify" selling a army book for $69.... When I first started they were $30. Plus those new models are hideous, especially that giant roided up turkey

The Valten _models_ are back. Nothing says he's in the book.

@Hannanibal - Author Is Robin "Your Army is Doomed Now, Ha Ha Ha Muther Effer" Cruddace.

First TK.
Now Empire.

If he redoes Skaven, that will be the trifecta of him killing all my favorite armies.

I had always imagined that the leeway given to army book authors was extremely limited. GW is all about synergy, so they write the books in order to sell the models. Even though the stats may initially come from the author, I had thought that they went through substantial testing and working things out in groups before the books actually go to press. If stats are inflated, or too low, I would imagine that it's not necessarily the fault of the listed author. GW just doesn't strike me as the kind of company that gives anyone much autonomy any more.

Of course, I've never worked for GW, or even talked to top people except briefly at US Games Day, so I don't really know. Maybe they do let Robin Cruddace do whatever he wants.

I imagine it's a little of both. No design team in their right mind would give all creative control to a single individual, though that individual may be a creative lead and have the "tiebreaker" involved in making group decisions.

Singling out the author as the source of the problem is no different to pointing out a government figurehead for an entire government's failure.

Why are people surprised Valten is back? He was killed after Storm Of Chaos, the timeline of the army books all end BEFORE Storm Of Chaos, all the stuff that happened during that campaign hasn't, yet.

Anyway, more rumors. These are all from Warseer from one guy sop take with a massive pinch of salt

All State Troups are up by 1 point except spearmen
State Troop detachments benefit from rules and prayers cast on the parent unit. We don't know yet if this works the other way and hexes affecting the parent unit effect detachments
Mortar is still large blast, but S2 and costs 60 slaves
Helstorm Rocket battery fires d3 small s3 blast templates which always fire indirectly
Steam Tank is T6 amd costs 125 slaves
Runefangs are 40 slaves
Van Horstmann's Speculum is still in and costs 20 slaves
Item called Helm Of The Ratslayer - Model causes Fear, causes Terror in Skaven but gives Skaven Hatred
Armor Of Meteoric Iron is a 1+ and 6+ ward now
Flagellants cost 6 slaves each and are special now
Knights cost 10.5 slaves
Reikguard Knights are stubborn and cost 13.5 slaves
The War Alter grants Hatred to units within 6" and Prayers effect units within 6"
The Hurricanum grants units in 6" +1 to hit and has a magic missle attack
The laser thingey grants units within 6" a 6+ ward and had a magical bolt thrower style attack
Demigriffon knights cost 29 slaves each
Cannon is 60 slaves
Priests can channel
Master Engineer gives his BS to the Helblaster
Units lead by a Captain or General of the Empire roll 3d6 for Ld tests and discard the lowest. Not known if this applies to all test or just break tests.
Pidgeon Bombs work same as before but have 24" range
Mechanical Warhorse is the same as before but at the beginnig of the turn on a roll of a 1 in loses -1M for the rest of the game

Prayers are:
Re-roll misses
+1 Attack
Flaming attacks and cause damge to models in base contact
5+ ward
