That griffon makes the HE one in Island of Blood look tiny. I like the HE one much better. Scale Creep, how I loathe you.

I might as well post my Empire thoughts here because all the other forums are posting a mile a minute and nobody can read anything. Altar – I really like this model and the plastic characters that come with it. My only complaint would be that I can’t really wrap my head around how the priest controls the horses. It needs a second rider to drive it around but that seems silly. I really wish they included an option to have flagellants pull the altar but I guess that is not too difficult to convert. Wizard wagons (or whatever they are called) – These are strange but I can’t deny that they look really cool. I suppose I’m just not crazy about the idea in general. It feels like they only made these to take advantage of the war altar model. I still like that they are included in the book just to provide more options but I don’t know if I would ever include them. Griffon – Wow! It’s huge and it does have a tiny head but I still like this thing. I’m in love with the Karl Franz version. The regular general option seems a bit silly on such a monster but maybe he can fit on the IOB griffon. I’m totally perplexed by the Amber wizard on the two headed griffon. Like why on earth does this thing have two heads? It looks great but would the empire really use a two headed mutated griffon? I can’t even imagine every wanting to take an Amber wiz on a griffon though. Griffon knights – What a fantastic kit. I was a bit skeptical about how these would fit into the Empire army but I have to admit that they look great. They are not over the top like I expected. The only issue I have with this kit is that it makes the old knight set look like a pile of garbage. Characters Witch Hunter – Homerun. It’s nice to see a different take on this model and it’s about time he was included in the book. Captain – Average Amber Wiz – Ace but will not be used very much. Overall I’m very impressed with this release. The plastic characters with the altar and wizard wagons really prove that GW doesn’t even need to bother with fine cast and should just move to all plastic. I’m so tempted to start an empire army, but the cost of everything I would want would cause my head to be cut off by the wife. This Friday’s lottery is up to 470 Million. Might just have to buy a few tickets. |

I have to say the more I look at them the more I like the Griffon & knights. The others are kind of shocking but as always you have to try and look past the badly painted jobs GW does on models. As far as the small heads issue have you never heard of selective breeding? Seem to me you wouldn't want an animal that big to be too intelligent also having a bigger head makes the head easier to hit. I have been umming about starting a new army for awhile now I am liking the idea of Griffon Knights but I guess it comes down to "what rules" they get. And if they stupid or not. |

GW can make a paint-job look both professional AND horrible. The cannon is one such example.

I won't pretend to know much about birds or griffon-lore, but I do know some birds puff out their chests making the chest look huge. That's what I invisioned the Griffon model doing, to make itself look larger/more fierce. I really like the tiger one's paint job. |

The puffy bird chest would have worked better if it wasn't covered in a massive armour plate.

yeah the head is not even that bad but it is most people's first thought. I'm tempted to buy just the Griffon and Altar, which is something I never do (buy one or two models and not start an army). |

I can see why some people would like these models and detail-wise they do look good. But they are just getting more and more over the top and I fear for the future of Warhammer. Will we have to drag around models so big you can't legally call them minis any more?

"Will we have to drag around models so big you can't legally call them minis any more?" Yes, but think of how many skullz! skullz! skullz! GW's sculptors can cram onto the oversized models. Oh wait, is that not a good thing? |

So that's why GW are increasing the size of the models. Moar skullz = moar win! |

The nice thing is that there are a lot of options. You can still play Empire without any of these huge models. They have a crap ton of choices in the army book. The other option is to use the older models. There are plenty of different smaller griffon minis that can be used as opposed to the new big one. . |

I like the griffon and the characters but the alter just looks ridiculous. I think that they maybe made a 3 up alter and stuck some horses in front of it. maybe it will have a rule that it cant go in forests because of the danger of low hanging branches or that as soon as it enters dangerous terrain it dies. And anyway how could their houses pull so much stuff. The engineers stuff.must be really heavy. If cruddace did write the book it would probabaly have movement10 anyway, not to mention the strenth 10 large blast you can place anywhere on the board whenever it movesetc... And the chicken riders are such a ridiculous idea. The empire is supposed to hate mutants amd stuff. Whoever rode them would just be burnt for blasphemy or something. Anyway rant over... |
