So being recent to the game I am still working on building my army but would also like to get ideas on terrain and buildings that can be used. Wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on ones that would be a bit cheaper than GWs. I know that many of them looking very cool but currently are outside of what I would even be able to consider. (Actually building two armies atm, one for me and another for my wife).

I will start out with one that many people may not have seen and its called War Torn Worlds. The company makes terrain out of recycled tires and are reasonably priced. Does anyone else have suggestions of reasonably decent products for a good price that can be shared with the community.

My buddy likes to use 'recycled' terrain. We've a large collection of Platter Hills, There's a Q-Tip box Hospital, Some TV dinner Apartment kind of thing, a cereal bowl hobbit home, some Beach toy castles, etc. I freely admit that none of it is well painted (but it is all painted), and about half of the buildings require more than a little suspention of disbelief, but when we put the table together we're at 35% terrain for under $20, so I can't much complain.

This is one of the great things about finding an active FLGS, or playing group: they have terrain. One of the two clubs I play with have a quarterly tourney with a $15 entry fee. 50% goes to prize support, 50% goes to buy terrain for the club.

Get some plasticard, foam, a knife and a bit skill and you can come very far.
FOR THE GLORY OF THE HORNED RAT OF COURSE!

If you fail at scenery making (like me) then you can buy a lot online. Try pegasus hobbies website.

My and my boyfriend are forever making terrain pieces. It's fun!
He makes awesome bunkers and buildings and I make useless but pretty creepy pieces that fill up the board.

We also have some of the 40k GW buildings and yesterday I bought a German shed kit in a small hobby shop.

It's a bit big but that should make it usable. Also a lot cheaper than any GW stuff.

That's perfect! Is it a lot out of scale? I bought some brick walls in the same scale and they seem fine.

Well the door on it is bigger than a Beastmen model, but I think once it's fully assembled it shouldn't look too out of place.

I will post some scale pictures once it's done.

My terrain is mostly made by me, some bought. I do like the recycle-tire terrain (though I wish the water wasn't so colorful). Hills are easy to make from construction foam. Trees are mostly purchased, though I have made a half-dozen leafless trees I'm not sure that they were worth the work. Buildings are mostly purchased, out of laziness and convenience. Things like brush and rock-piles are easily made.

I have considered buying some of the Hirst Arts molds, but haven't done so yet. Too busy right now.

I used to spend a lot of time making my own terrain, but now I use the odd items around my house like bottles and books... Of course actual terrain looks fantastic but I'd rather spend my money on more models! Hence the random sortie of terrain haha... Oh and of course anything with giant skulls on them, those skulls are just great! ;)
