Hey, I'm new to fantasy but not to Games Workshop games, and after reading the Thanquol books, I decided to leave the melta-spam of 40k and move to darker, underground pastures. Spent quite a lot of time looking through this forum, as well as tinkering with ideas about theme and composition, and I've come up with this non-competitive (probably) and from what I understand, fairly standard list. It's got to the point where I'm just tweaking things and not really making any real improvements or changes, so I was wondering whether anyone had any suggestions. List as follows: Lords Grey Seer (240) -Ruin Warlord (175) -Dragon Helm, Foul Pendant, Warlock-augemented weapon Heroes Chieftan (BSB) (85) -Enchanted Shield -Luckstone Plague Priest (104) -Plague Lvl 1 -Flail Core Clanrats [30] (140) - FCM Clanrats [30] (140) - FCM Clanrats [25] (140) - FCM Night Runners [20] 160 - Slings Skavenslaves [40] 80 - Musician Skavenslaves [ 41] 82 - Musician Special Plague Monks [40] (340) - Musician, Standard Bearer -Razor Standard Rare Doomwheel WLC WLC The things that obviously stand out as weak to me are the naked Seer and the Night Runners. I was running a list earlier which didn't have a doomwheel, and when I thought I could get one in I had to pare him down a bit and reduce some numbers elsewhere. I like the Night runners for some strong flanking action, as I though they could probalby entrench themselves in a building, or go and kill some warmachines. There isn't a HPA, and I don't want to put one in. I know I'm only a noob, but from what I understand it seems like you need to build a lot around the HPA with items and units, and I don't like having such an obvious cannon target. Any CONSTRUCTIVE thoughts or suggestions helpful, I would like to know where I'm going wrong, but I wouldn't like to be told that I'm an idiot :). Cheers. |

Seems like a good start for a good Skaven army, but several things, like the Warlord build is questionable. The reason for this is that he doesn't survive long and that he doesn't really kill much either. I would probably rebuild him. To do this you should drop the Night Runners. I have tried them several times, but they have always failed to do any serious damage and tend to die to fast. You should also have some points left for a Skalm or 4+ Ward Save on the Grey Seer. You should find space for some Rat Darts. They are in my eyes essential to have an answer to something really powerful when other troops are in a bad position and serve many other roles. You should also use the Plague Banner instead of the Razor Standard on your Monks. It hurts a lot to be hit by that unit then. You should try to get a Dispel Scroll too, as it will always be good (except against Dwarfs) and is bound to help you out in the long run. Lastly I would say that the HPA doesn't actually need that much help. It is a big target yes, but it moves fast and has that Regen save that can make Cannon shots basically wasted if you make it. But you're free to not use it. It's your army, and I don't use it much personally either. |

Thanks. Do you have any suggestions for what items to put on the Warlord? I played around with it, and after dropping the Night Runners and changing the standard I am now looking at. Rat Dart Rat Dart Grey Seer -Skalm -Dispel Warlord (Still don't know what would make him REALLY good) Chieftan (BSB) Plague Priest Clan Rats (35) Clan Rats (35) Clan Rats (25) Skaven Slaves (45) Skaven Slaves (45) WLC WLC Doomwheel If the Warlord is naked then I have 100 points to play with, but as I say, unsure as to waht to put on him. I think therei s a thread around here somewhere. Will edit after I fid it. Edited by Hieronymus, 4th March 2012 - 09:20 AM.

Sword of Antiheros and Warpstone armor are always two good wins for me. I also like to put a Engineer (vanilla) in each of the Slaves to boost their leadership. This usually give me time to maneuver for a flank with my warlord or, dare I say it, Night Runners. They can be an effective flanking unit if built properly, since they have time to flank properly. Also consider giving your priest a Furnace, with one your monks will be greatly feared on the field of battle. |
