Hi Guys

I wanted to get the opinions of some fellow Moulder players on this.

Now I'm a little bit in love with the Wolf Rats from Forge World & was thinking that maybe they'd be useful as counts as Rat Ogres for the following reasons;

1) They're pretty large & wouldn't look out of place on 40mm bases
2) They'd add some visual variety to an army
3) ...did I mention I'm a little bit in love with these things??

What do you think?

I think its a cool idea but it would be a little hard to field them if you get these guys that think Forgeworld models cant be used in warhammer/40k games.
The beastmen charge from the woods the skaven from the ground. Men scream with nowhere to go it s a good day.

Generally people only have those views if you're using the usually overpowered FW rules for that unit. I don't think anyone would begrudge using them as a unit listed in the book, obviously a clear explanation of what they count as would be required.

Yeah, fielding GW models (and ForgeWorld models are GW) makes it 'table legal' as it were, but the rules have to come from the Armybook or BRB. So using WolfRats as Rat Ogres, Giant Rat fillers, Pox Rats for Mounts, etc are all legal for 'sanctioned' playso long as the proper sized base is used. So a Rat Wolf on a 40x40 could counts-as a Rat Ogre, or 4 giant rats. Using the rules sheet that comes with the models tends to be frowned upon, both in 'sanctioned' and 'friendly' play.

Why frowned upon in friendly play?

Isn't that exactly the time to try experimental rules?

I will likely get 10 of these just to fit in the fluff. I am sure I can convince some players to let me play them in friendly games. Anyone painted up some of these?

I'd also be interested in painting up one of these.
Personally i refuse to buy them since FW released there's about 2 weeks after i finished my hard work conversion of one for a filler....

For the same reason people don't tend to allow "this totally cool Skaven Calvary unit that my buddy and I wrote up." This game, more than most, is dependent upon game balance, and the Forge World rules are notoriously unbalanced in the units favor.

For the most part FW does very good work. They are a tad pricey. To sell said work at those prices they are forced to come up with over-the-top-rules. Just play them a few times and tone the rules down.

I think the Forge World rules tend to be a bit poo. They seem rushed and are full of mistakes.

Having looked at the rules for all the Skaven releases from FW as they stand none of them are over the top at all. In fact I intend to pick up the Broodhorror/Warlord mini for firendly use as I know I'll get to use it as the rules just aren't ridiculous.

Silly rules seems to be the mainstay for FW 40k releases. So far their fantasy stuff all looks legit.....Basilisk may be the exception here as it's VERY good.

Those wolfrats look very nice!!
I just decided to find a use for them. In nl we never use forge world rules in tournements, just in friendly games but the models are allowed on even the strictest tournements.
