I've just started playing Warhammer again after a long long absence. I just put together my first attempt at my Skaven list. I'm sure I've made many inappropriate decisions, as I haven't even played a game yet (first game on thursday, albeit w/ Brets) I put this together with the idea that I would choose the models that I have a personal, fluffy, preference for, but I would still like to field a competitive army. I would appreciate your thoughts, especially regarding glaring errors, but also where this lists strengths and weaknesses may be. (and also, a general rule question... does the plague furnace upgrade to the plague priest count towards the hero 25%? Even if it does, this list should still be legal, but I'd like to know for any variations I consider.) 40 Skavenslaves Musician 40 Skavenslaves Musician 49 Clanrats Full Command Poisoned Wind Mortar Banner of the Under-Empire 1 Warlock Engineer (w/clanrats) Level 1 Doomcannon 25 Plague Monks Full Command Plague Banner 1 Plague Priest (w/ Plague Monks) Level 2 Plague Censor Dispel Scroll Plague Furnance 20 Clan Rats Full Command Poisoned Wind Mortar 1 Grey Seer (w/ Clan Rats) 29 Stormvermin Full Command Storm Banner Upgraded Versions 1 Queek Headtaker (w/ Stormvermin) 6 Gutter Runners Deathrunner Slings Smoke Bombs 1 Warp Lightning Cannon I have a few extra points, but I probably need to free up about 30 or 40 more to spend on the Seer. I'm not familiar with how his bunker unit should normally be handled, so maybe the weapons team is a bad choice. Also not sure about the Storm Banner, but I figure I could use some protection from shooting... I am thinking the Stormvermin and Plague Monks as hammers, the large Clanrat as an all purpose unit, and the slaves as slaves of course. Do I have enough Gutter Runners to be effective? Should I have more war machines? So many questions! Thanks |

First thing first, for a first list you're off to a great start. Just a few suggestions and whats nots. 1) Clanrats can't take magic banners so the banner of the under empire has to go. That should free up some points for ya. Also you might consider dropping these guys down to 35-40 models. 49 is a bit overkill at this army size and the extra points could be better spent elsewhere. 2) The Doomcannon is called a Doomrocket, fyi. Good build on the engineer. That's how I run mine. 3) Way too few Plague Monks. At this size of a game 30 is needed at minimum but 35 should do ya proud. 4) The Seer's bunker could do with an additional 5 guys, but it's not necessary. Another popular bunker is 10 stormvermin. They're cheaper than 20 clanrats but with half the survivability. 5) Personally I would drop the Smoke Bombs and unit champion on the Gutter Runners and give them poison instead. much more effective for war machine/lone character hunting. You have a good amount of these guys. They'll do what they need to do. 6) Yes the Plague Furnace Counts towards the 25% character restrictions. 7) This really should be #1 on the list you NEED a BSB. For Skaven this little guy is a must. Your army will crumble and run without him. |

TRADE I'm looking for Dark Eldar to convert into DE. Also looking for bretonnia lances and halberds. If anyone has any they would be interested in trading PM me and we can work something out. "And, most vivid of all, there was the dramatic epic of the rats––the scampering army of obscene vermin which had burst forth from the castle three months after the tragedy that doomed it to desertion––the lean, filthy, ravenous army which had swept all before it and devoured fowl, cats, dogs, hogs, sheep and even two hapless human beings before its fury was spent. Around that unforgettable rodent army a whole separate cycle of myths revolves, for it scattered among the village homes and brought curses and horrors in its train." – The Rats In The Walls, H.P. Completely forgot about the BSB. Definitely got to find space for him. The reason i went with 25 Plague Monks is because in the book it states that the furnace takes up about 15 models, so I looked at that as being a 40 rat strong unit, but a 50 strong is even better I suppose. Thanks for the tips, I'll play with the numbers and see what I come up with. Any advice on how to outfit the Seer with gear? |

Usually I run him as cheap as possible so a dispel scroll/skalm/ward save and 2 warpstone tokens or some combination of those. So he can run, for me, anywhere between 270-300 pts. Here's some topics that you might want to look through to get a better idea of how people field their seer. http://s6.zetaboards.com/The_UnderEmpire/search/?c=1&q=Grey+Seer&type=topic&sort=desc&forum[]=56072&s_m=4&s_d=9&s_y=2004&e_m=2&e_d=29&e_y=2012 http://s6.zetaboards.com/The_UnderEmpire/topic/8801986/1/ |

Here's where I'm at. 40 Skavenslaves Musician 40 Skavenslaves Musician 33 Clan Rats Shields Full Command Poisoned Wind Mortar 1 Warlock Engineer (w/Clan Rats) Level 1 Doom Rocket 1 Chieftan BSB Warpstone Armor 35 Plague Monks Full Command Plague Banner 1 Plague Priest (w/ Plague Monks) Level 2 Plague Censer Dispel Scroll Plague Furnace 20 Clan Rats Full Command 1 Grey Seer (w/ Clan Rats) Foul Pendant Skalm 29 Stormvermin Full Command Upgraded Version Storm Banner 1 Queek Headtaker (w/ Stormvermin) 6 Gutter Runners Slings Poison 1 Warp Lightning Cannon That list puts me 49 over. I dropped one of the Mortars... but I still need to lose 49 points. Storm Banner? I could see that being really useful against many armies (this is a basic all-comers type list) Are there any places where I could get away with dropping some champions... drop the Plague Priest down to level 1? Thoughts? Oh, and I was thinking the BSB could go into the Clan Rats with the Engineer. Good spot for him? Edited by Decks Scrizzel, 29th February 2012 - 08:54 AM.

Drop the queek vermin, to many points invested in a hammer that is too easy to kill. Plus qweeks a horrible general. And yes, the bsb should be bunkered behind your slaves in a clanrat bunker. |

I like the queek unit for fluffy reasons, but I agree, it is a lot of points... What would you suggest I replace it with? And why is Queek not so good? Is it better to go with a generic general outfitted a certain way, generally? Edited by Decks Scrizzel, 29th February 2012 - 10:18 PM.

because queek has very little armor and no ward save, also really pricey, can build a better warlord for the same points. |

I was thinking the leadership would be useful, but no ward save is an issue, I suppose. He isn't much more than a fully pimped Warlord though. Any suggestions or links to a General Build thread? I'm looking but haven't found it yet... |
