The bread that satisfies all hunger... the peanut that reverses time...

Hey Mordheim lovers. I'm playing a game of Mordheim this weekend, the first in a long time, with my girlfriend and I wanted to run our start out lists by you. I'm very rusty at this game and my girlfriend has never played it so I don't want to be too cheesy with my list and put her off (hence no overdosing on slings) and I also don't want her to field a useless warband. Is there anything glaringly wrong or needs changing and could I take more slings whilst still being uncheesy? I have models for every troop type in both warbands so I can make any changes necessary. She is playing undead BTW. Thanks in advance guys. Oh and how do you like my wyrdstone counters? I knew I'd find a use for that pot of gravel in my scenery making box ![]() SKAVEN Heroes Assassin adept- Sword, sling 72 Eshin Sorcerer- Warplock Pistol 80 Black Skaven- Light Armour, Helmet, Sword, Buckler 85 Black Skaven- Light Armour, Helmet, Sword, Buckler 85 Night Runner- Sword, Sling 32 Night Runner- Sword, Sling 32 Henchmen 3 Verminkin- club, buckler 84 2 Giant Rats 30 UNDEAD Heroes Vampire- Light armour, sword 140 Necromancer- 35 Dreg- Light armour, helmet, spear 60 Dreg- Light armour, spear 50 Henchmen 3 Ghouls- 120 6 Zombies - 90 Edited by hannanibal, 28th February 2012 - 04:05 PM.

SKAVEN Heroes Assassin adept- Sword, sling 72 Eshin Sorcerer- Warplock Pistol 80 Switch the pistol with the assassin his sling. If your wizard gets a decent spell he'll have to chose between the spell or the pistol. Which would be a waste of either casting or a pistol. Besides the assassin has more Bs then a wizard aswell. Black Skaven- Light Armour, Helmet, Sword, Buckler 85 Black Skaven- Light Armour, Helmet, Sword, Buckler 85 Drop the armour+ helmets on them and invest the points in more Verminkin Night Runner- Sword, Sling 32 Night Runner- Sword, Sling 32 Both are pretty standard Henchmen 3 Verminkin- club, buckler 84 pretty standard build 2 Giant Rats 30 good to fill up with extra models Model count= 11 This isn't enough for Skaven, i'd at least try to boost my warbands amount of models up to 13 to avoid those dreaded rout tests on a Ld of only 7. UNDEAD Heroes Vampire- Light armour, sword 140 I'd give the vampire a halberd instead of a sword and go kill everything with your Strenght 5 attacks, wounding on a 2+ is a great advantage. Necromancer- 35 pretty standard ![]() Dreg- Light armour, helmet, spear 60 Dreg- Light armour, spear 50 I'd give them bows, just to have some shooting and play the game in every phase. Since it's a basic game. Also drop the armour+helmet and invest in some doggies they are rather good Henchmen 3 Ghouls- 120 Ghouls are very good in Mordheim because of their T4 6 Zombies - 90 To fill wome numbers Warband count= 13, so you'd need to lose 5 models before you start taking rout tests. A good dependable number. Flem, |

Thanks flem. OK....Skaven.... I was wondering whether to give the assassin the pistol. My reasoning was if the warlock got a crappy spell he'd still be useful with the pistol. Can equipment be swapped, mid-game, between members? I am gonna drop the armour and hemets on the black skaven and buy more members. Should I buy cheaper giant rats instead of verminkin to boost the model count? Undead. Will the halberd make him a bit too killy? Will he be unbalanced for our first game do you think? Dregs. They only have BS2 so I thought the bows would be pointless untill they get an advance in BS. I advised Alison against them. Do you think they'll be better than spears? Although this is our first game we are intending to keep these warbands as part of a campaign so I said she could just buy bows when they advance in BS and give a spear to a new dreg recruit. I'll drop the helmet and armour and buy a wolf. |

Not mid-game, but if i'm correct between games you can swap equipment. Any vampire is already killy, but he is forsaking sole defence to get more offence. So he'll be prone to shooting and strenght 4+ charges. But if the Vampire charges he'll be sure to do some damage. Not to OP if you ask me. Dregs are heroes and are better kept alive to gain more resources and gain some XP, with bows (even if they never hit anything) they'll stay alive and eventually upgrade with staying alive XP Flem, |

I meant in between games. Sorry about that. Dunno why I wrote mid game lol. OK,I swapped the pistol, dropped the black skaven helmets and armour and bought another verminkin and 2 giant rats. I bought a halberd for the assassin too. For the undead I dropped the light armour and helet for the dregs and bought another dreg with spear and a zombie. I won't bother with the vampire halberd just yet. This seems more balanced and has filled the figure count out much better. Thanks for the advice mate. |

In regard to equipment, I would like to remind you that 'exotic items' such as fighting claws or weeping blades are only 'freely' available when starting the warband. Once you began playing with them, these items need to be searched for in the post-game sequence and can take quite a bit of time, before being found. Especially in combination with a skill such as The Art of Silent Death, I find fighting claws to really be worth their money. Personally, I'm something of a fan of helmets. Some like them, some don't, but a 4+ save against being stunned is rather good for the 10 gc you have to invest for one. Especially against faster opponents who can rather quickly finish you off, the difference between being knocked down or stunned can make quite a difference. As you mention to be using these warbands in a campaign, I'd like to advice the Undead warband to get the third dreg that, if I'm not mistaken, they're allowed to have. More heroes means more income. Other then that, regarding the Undead list I have to concur with Flem that it needs Dire Wolves. M9 is just sick! Greetz |

Quick question about buying rare items..... Do you roll, see the result, then choose whichever rare item is available for that score or choose an item then roll? I was going to get some fighting claws but I thought the uber rare warplock would be enough for now. I'm confident in the equipment my warband has for the moment and I'm sure some rare items will be gained somewhere down the line. I updated the list and bought a third dreg after Flem reminded me about the income thing. It's one thing to read the rules and it's another thing to take in all the nuances. Thanks. Oh and I'll tell Alison about the wolves and see what she says. I have some painted up already. Edited by hannanibal, 29th February 2012 - 01:59 PM.

You have to say what you're going to look for, then roll to see whether you found it/ whether it was available. Greetz |

So if you specifically wanted the warplock pistol you need to roll an 11 (I think that's its rare number) on 2d6? That's harsh. |

Yes it really is ![]() I agree with Vinz, the fighting claws and art of silent death combo is really cool to play with and fits the Eshin theme. Even if they are cumbersome they can make alot of difference on let's say a Black Skaven with a strenght of 4. Plus since they are paired weapons they grant you a re-roll aswell. Flem, |

My Eshin theme is somewhat lacking......I've used my red and white slave-clanrats for the warriors and my halberd wielding, pistol firing assassin is a warlock engineer from IoB at the moment. Wysiwyg to the hilt but a bit un-Eshiny....

I'm pretty happy with both our warbands at the minute. Alison isn't bothered with the wolf just yet but she'll probably end up recruiting oneafter game one when I run rings around her dozy zombies
