Having been running my asur exclusively in this edition, I'm tiring of the msu approach and want to be able to put more bodies on the table. Hence it is time to dust off the ratmonkeys. Trouble is, I don't have the cash to make sweeping changes to the list I ran in seventh, so I'll have to adapt it in other ways.

Here it is, with some little updates to make it 8th-ed. legal.

Warlord on bonebreaker, waw
Grey seer, power stone

Bsb, storm banner, shield, tail weapon, poison
Level 2 engineer, condenser, doomrocket
level 1 priest, censer, dispel scroll

35 clanrats with spears & shields, command, wft
35 clanrats with spears & shields, command, wft
21 slaves
21 slaves
21 slaves
15 night runners, warpgrinder
13 giant rats, 2 packmasters

24 monks, command
3 rat ogres, master moulder
5 gutter runners, deathrunner, smoke bombs

Doomwheel
doomwheel

Any advice on how this could be made to work for the new game would be greatly appreciated.

Warlord on bonebreaker, waw

Waw? warlock augmented weapon? just fyi the cheeper sword of anti heroes is the same thing and gets better with characters in the enemy unit. (+ bonebreakers are rather horrendous)

Grey seer, power stone

he doesnt need a stone, hes needs a ward save. magic in this edition is indefinably more important than in previous editions, as such protection for your expensive level 4 is very important

Bsb, storm banner, shield, tail weapon, poison

he doesn't need a tail weapon or the poison, he wants to stay the hell away from combat.

Level 2 engineer, condenser, doomrocket

doesn't need the level 2, just level 1, otherwise hes alright.

level 1 priest, censer, dispel scroll

drop the censer, get a flail, you do not want to gas your own guys.

35 clanrats with spears & shields, command, wft

drop spears

35 clanrats with spears & shields, command, wft

drop spears

21 slaves
21 slaves
21 slaves

all of these need musicians, and all of them really need to be a whole lot bigger, like 40 or 50 not 20s. the clanrats can come down to 30 man units (one needs to be a bunker for the grey sear and the bsb)

15 night runners, warpgrinder

drop these, serve no point.

13 giant rats, 2 packmasters

2 units of 5 giant rats and 1 packmaster, cheapest tactical toy in the game.

24 monks, command

needs to be bigger and get a plague banner.

3 rat ogres, master moulder

drop

5 gutter runners, deathrunner, smoke bombs

drop the champ and smoke bombs, get poison and slings.

Doomwheel
doomwheel

2 can be pretty effective.

Heavens. I had a funny feeling it'd be torn up. Thanks, it needed to be.

Not having the book on me, i didn't look into this. I agree, though, regarding the bonebreaker. Ultimately I only put him in because I'm rather chuffed with my new conversion, and as I pumped this list up to 2.5 by slapping on this fellow and the wheels - lazy, I know. He goes.

I don't know how I overlooked this; my only excuse is that I cut and pasted from my old list. After all I wouldn't dream of running an archmage without one. Point taken.

Aw, you're no fun :P

...but?

Anyway, taking all your advice on board and also dropping the warlord gets me well over 500 points! Thus when I went to tally up my pared back revision it came in at 2k. Oh well, back to square one.
Here we go:

Grey seer, talisman of preservation

BSB, storm banner
Engineer level 1, condenser, rocket
Priest level 1, flail, dispel scroll

30 clanrats, shields, command, wft
ditto
40 slaves, musician
ditto
5 giant rats, packmaster
ditto

35 monks, command, plague banner
5 gutter runners, poison, slings

2 doomwheels

1999

While I think this makes a tidy 2k list, I'm unsure how to proceed again. I'd like a warlord as it might be nice to have a general who won't blow himself up. I'm also considering getting a bell, though I'm not really sold on the idea (just have the opportunity for a sweet deal) and possibly some stormvermin. Would it be worth putting the ogres back in if I pumped them up a bit?
