Hello everyone.
I thought I should contribute something useful to the site and what would make a better contribution than one of my cheeky Skaven painting cheats.

Warpstone.
We all love it. It's the foundation of our Skaven society. Wars are fought of this substance and when consumed it can grant many wishes and even gives you horns! But painting all that green can be a bit tricky and tedious at times. Especially when you are as successful as I am and have a lot of it.

But do not despair!
This tutorial was created with the soul purpose of saving you time, paint and effort! I will share with you the greatest secret of all times, ever!
I will show you how to paint your shiny green rocks using not 10, not 5, no, not even 3 but only 2 paints! I repeat: Only TWO paints are used here.

And to keep this accessible for even the slowest of Slaves this tutorial will consist of only two steps and a nice big shiny picture.

Enjoy!

Paints used:
- Dehneb Stone
- Dark Angel Green

Step one
Base coat your piece of warpstone using Dehneb Stone. Make sure to get it all spread out nicely and evenly. You can use multiple layers if you think it necessary.
Now wait for that to dry.

Step two
Take some of your Dark Angels Green and water it down. Make it thin enough so it flows around like a wash, but not too thin that it doesn't cover or doesn't stick to your model.
Now apply that pretty green wash to your warpstone. Get it as wet as a fish.
Wait for that to dry too. If (some of) the recesses are not dark enough you can add some more wash to them.

And voilą!

Glad you like it. :)
I know it's not as pretty as taking a full day and using many shades of green, but it does the job and works pretty well on both big and small rocks. I paint all my warpstone this way but this way the first time trying it out on a bigger rock.

which primer did you use? black or white? Or do you paint up from bare plastic? (Yes this makes difference)

Anyways, good, effective, simple tutorial...... way easier than i do. (which is good) ;)

I never use primers, lol.
I know some of you will probably have me shot for that but I don't really care.

Yeah I will add a glossy varnish when the entire model is done. Shiny!! :D

Your idea of mithril sounds nice :o That would make it a metallicy greeny rock, sounds good!

Cool, simple and effective. Try adding a wash of yellow ink to give it an unearthly glow ;)

Oohhh, that sounds good too. :D
This is such a simple painting scheme that it leaves a lot of room for creativity and trying out other things.

I've found with my own works that mixing metallics rarely works; they just seem to lose their shine once mixed with the usual acrylics.

I tend to just add some white to the mix for highlighting.

I do the same with deneb stone or rotting flesh, i feel white can influence the colour to much at some times.

Looks good Kimzi! Perhaps consider adding some white/bleached bone/dheneb stone/rotting flesh to the dark angels green and doing a quick drybrush over all the raised areas then adding a little more and doing a straight edge highlight. Personally after that I use some old watered down dark green ink I still have lying around but with the Dark Angels green wash over yours a gloss varnish would work just as nicely. I understand that you are trying to do it fast and it does look nice but I feel that it lacks a little pop that another quick touch or two would give it. Would love to see it on the finished model :)

I know it's cheap and easy and any decent painter laughs at it, but it's how I do it and I'm happy with the results.
Adding a little drybrush here or a highglight there will just ruin it for me because I am not that good at painting. :(

Everyone is more than welcome to make their own variations, but for me this is it.
