OK so I know that you can get a cairn wraith or a Banshee for a HQ choice but after looking and seeing no difference to the stats. I was wondering what is the purpose of this as a choice other then getting two banshees in a single unit of wraiths.
Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

They can join other units. This helps when facing very dangerous Characters without magical attacks, like High Elves.

Fluffy and silly tactics a side. All the VC need are wizards even the vampires are rediculusly expensive true they are hard IF you go to town on them. BUT the fact is you can grind enemies down with the fodder and use 2 lvl 4s to keep the army going.

We had this debate on Thursday and in the end we settled on just take wizards.
Seriously even the BSB does very little to justify him as a good choice.

I don't understand what you are talking about. He just asked about Banshees and Cairn Wraiths.

I confess that I don't know what anybody is talking about, unless it is now possible to play a Vampire Counts army in 40K.

In Warhammer Fantasy, we have lords and heroes, and every army must have a general and may take a battle standard bearer. But I didn't know that we had HQ choices.

Dude I made a mistake in the title you dont have to be rude about it.(and if that was not your intent you need to get better at your ability to write.)

Saying the guy using the term HQ lmao

Mutate also I thought my statement was rather clear the only decent character for the Undead is necromancer at lord level and at hero level the others just don't cut it. A vampire lord would be ok in 3k+ The Banshee and wraith add nothing of worth while to me. Though I suppose you could play WACCER and take a unit of skeletons with 5 Wraiths in the front rank so that you can only hurt the unit if you actually do magical damage.

I have a feeling that the hero choice Cairn Wraith and Tomb Banshee have an extra ability each, but I don't have my book handy right now to check.

I know that was what distinguished them before the 8th ed. printing.

Yeah 1 hit that auto wounds with no saves or a leadership test vs dice roll attack. Both lame.

On the topic-

With the new VC book, the option is open to make the Ethereal Cloud (TM).
Flood the zone with as many single-base hosts, hero banshees and wraiths, hexwraiths, and units of wraiths+a banshee as you can. Advance behind it with meat. Flank it with those flapping monstrous infantry.

Win.

Now back on topic.

...thanks. So ethereal cloud could you explain it a little more because I would think that they fall under the same constraints and disadvantages as before if they join a unit without ethereal they lose that ability dont they, or do you have them floating in the back and then send them through like shock units?

Am not usually GW savvy like this but sounds to me like you need to read the book....

Or look for an alternative source for your information to clarify your thoughts. I am in no way suggesting you ask some one like me for it in a pm or that you look for it on a torrent site because that would be a breach of copyright distribution law.

Assuming that you can put an etherial hero/lord into a non etherial unit, it would lose the movement benefits but still be immune to non magical attacks.
