What would you like to see in a hobby magazine? It seems like a fairly simple and straight-forward question. What kind of content, be it extremely broad of very specific, would you like to see in a magazine aimed at you? This question is inspired by two things. Olorin the Ancient's A Call to Action, and a conversation I have been having with Hannibal that has turned from talking about Warhammer Quest to discussing where White Dwarf lacks in drawing in the more established player base. Now, it is important to state from the outset, I am not talking about what White Dwarf (or any other publication, either) needs. Ranting about White Dwarf and Games Workshop is off the cards. This is a time to rise above that. So take a deep breath, exhale, and start to really think. What kind of content do you think would be interesting or informative to see in a magazine aimed at yourself? And I am talking anything. There are the ever present painting tutorials and battle reports. Short stories. But that is only the tip of what we do. What else is there that has had little attention payed to it? Don't worry, I won't just leave you hanging. Here are some examples from my own list that may help to get my meaning across, and start this dialogue. 1. A look at different densities of polystyrene foam, how they are made, and what this mean for you when choosing one to work with. 2. Converting different kinds of furniture to house hobby supplies and showcase miniature collections. 3. Different modular table designs and plans. 4. A guide on how to best introduce new players to a game system, or the hobby in general. 5. Taking core rules from a system (or systems) and using them to create your own world to play in. As I said, as broad or specific as you like. What have you really been waiting to see? And it doesn't even have to be Warhammer specific. The great thing about our hobby is that a lot of techniques and skills transfer across many systems and products. The fundamentals are just that, whether you are crashing jacks together in Warmachine or making a diorama for your own amusement. So what do we really want? |

Nice! I'd like to see more articles and tutorials on making scenery and also where the best place is to buy the best materials. I'd like more attention paid to the "specialist games" such as Mordheim and Necromunda. Games which are cheap to collect, awesome to play and have loads of depth and campaign opportunities but seem to be so neglected by GW at the minute. A standard gang or warband could be painted in a couple of days (a week tops) and then it's straight into the playing so a ressurection of these types of games would be ideal. Painting tutorials and methods are a must and kind of go without saying (I think). Some articles on alternative miniatures from different companies would be nice too. Oh and Warhammer Quest! Lots of Warhammer Quest articles.Even though I'd need to buy the rulebooks again. Mutate. Oh and more background/fluff dammit! When Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay first edition was all the rage in the late 80's the white dwarf was packed with stories and setting and I loved it. It made the hobby in general seem more atmospheric. I love seeing tutorials or just tips on how to build terrain, full gaming tables or even just to do small conversions. Attention for the small specialist games like Mordheim and Necromunda. I love playing those... Everyone loves playing those! Some tips and tricks to turn your kitchen table into a giant ruined city suitable for these skirmish games would be incredibly useful. Attention for the other gaming systems out there, not just Games Workshop ones. And I also like seeing the gamer getting attention. An interview with a normal gamer/collector/hobbyist and a few pictures of their army is really nice to see. |

Fluffy battle reports. The one thing I rearly enjoy when going though older white dwarfs is how some of the battle reports read like stories while still be a battle report. Instead of "the clanrats charged and did 6 wounds due to some lucky rolling and broke the enemy" it would be more "with a mighty speak clawpack Fitterfang kept forward and began the wholesale slaughter of their enemies. With such shocking ferocity that they caused a sudden rout and opened up a hole in the enemies lines"

I agree with Silas on the fluffy battle reports and in addition I always liked the ones that gave a bird's eye view map of the battlefield every turn showing what moved where. My first ever WD was issue 245. There was among all the enjoyable articles one that stood out to me. It was one about creating your own balanced characters and gave several examples mixed with several of their Mordheim and (now classic) Fantasy models. To me that's what the hobby was all about, not the building of mass armies or having the biggest monster. It was the creation of a character who was not god-like or indestructable but all the same was a hero or villain the gamer/collector/painter could view the Warhammer World from. But enough of my rambling. If I had a magazine, I would like it to strive to make not just the masses of models at the fore but more of that of the individual. It was one of the key factors that got me into the hobby. Also step by step terrain building. |

Love to see this kind of article. I'd also pitch my vote for battle reports. personally Im going to pitch for more competitive reports, but honestly I'll go for anything so long as its not a model showcase (which is why I stopped buying white dwarf) I'd like to see tactics and strategy guides for newer players. and I like to see house rules featured |

First let me say that I do buy White Dwarf as I love to read. If I don't have a book or magazine on hand I go a little crazy. That being said I do hate the fact that the newest releases get the entire mag each month. Every now and then I read two pages of the mag and then chuck it out as the rest is filled with new models for an army or game I have no interest in. I love Silas' fluffy battle reports post. I read one of these years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. All that being said - and as a current non-gamer - I personally would like to see more introductory tactics and army building sections, not just the page upon page of "buy this model - it is not selling" |

Those fluffy battle reports indeed were awsome !! Might be cool to have them back and not seeing the new army win every time like it is these days in the white Dwarf. As Olorin already pointed out with his thread, since the paint guides from GW dissapeared it might be nice to place some how to articles. Just simple ones could do the trick like 3 ways to paint warpstone, how to paint wood or even things like how to do an effective and realistic light source or glowing effect. I mean this community (unlike GW) isn't bound to mainly their own products but has a wider spectrum. Also the question demand principle is alot more efficient with the forum. You could make a poll asking what people would want a how to guide for, or could provide them with a general account/mail to post demands to. GW kept all their articles pretty standard if you ask me and alot of painting techniques weren't covered that much or even at all. +1 ratty some step by step Skaven scenery tutorials would be very cool to have. I can certainly agree on the fluffy battle reports, I always love reading those or just normal bat-reps with something other than the flavour-of-the-month GW army XDSame goes for scenery tutorials, particularly skaven-specific ones ![]() Strategy guides (ones that actually work), special scenarios, house rules and the like are all great too... I figure mostly it's just variety that I'd like to see XD |

So basically, what you all want... Is the underempire forum ...but expanded to ALL armies? (Why a magazine? The underempire can provide us with all that AND it allows us to give feedbacks or to ask additional questions. So if you want to offer us something , then make a new forum, where you welcome all lords from every single army and do exactly what the Underempire does for the Skaven lords...) |

It is? What century do you live in? Nowadays we have laptops (which is latin for "dont drop this") I-pads (which is greek for "dont step on them") and I-phones (which is just plainly annoying since every now and then you are bound to have a conversation with your boss, while whiping your behind...)
