Vanguard was a 12" move I thought. So they should be able to charge turn 1 or turn 2 easily.

Vangaurd is indeed limited to 12". But they also get their normal move, and then a possible vanhel's. Seems like a good way to get them around the enemy's lines early on to take out some war machines or chaff.

Vanguard was a 12" move I thought. So they should be able to charge turn 1 or turn 2 easily.
Keep in mind the various limits:

1) When using the V move, you cannot get to within 12 of enemy, If the enemy puts some flankers out there, you won't be able to get around the lines too easily.
2) If you V, then you cannot charge if you get first turn, and you make your V before seeing who goes first. So, you run the risk of getting in close and then getting charged before you move or get Danced.

It's still useful, but it's just not the free pass to go around the enemy or charge them right away that some people think it is.

You can't charge with Vanhel's in the new book. It says Compulsory Movement phase, not Charge Phase.
A compulsary move that brings you into contact with an enemy counts as a charge move, else an Abomb couldn't charge and use it's impact hits.
So if the spell states it's a compulsary move then yes you could use it to charge. Don't have the book so don't know the actual description of the spell.

Flem,
Even they move in Compulsory Movement phase, they do not count as charge if they contact with an enemy
BRB Compulsory Movement section say that, Compulsory move follow the normal movement rule unless otherwise stated, which mean you cannot move closer than 1" to any unit and cannot charge any enemy, if somehow you move closer than 1", you have to stop and put your unit 1" away

Random movement is another thing and follow its own rule, so they can charge, all other Compulsory move cannot

Again, guys, it's _not_ a Compulsory Move.

1) It is happening in the Magic Phase.
2) Think about what "compulsory" means in English.
3) Most importantly, the book spells it out with incredible specificity. It says "normal" move like in "Remaining Moves."

Why is this still going on?

Because most people commenting have yet to read/play against the new book I would wager.

@Sleboda - I wasn't saying how valid a tactic it was. I just wanted to correct the error listed.

Yeah, I get that part of it. I was wondering why people are still bringing up the "compulsory move" argument when it's been refuted with facts from the book.

Most likely a combination of ESL and replying to a post before you read the entire thread. (which I am currently guilty of...)
