It matters because it would screw up the game system specially when someone writes a book and goes yeah these guys can fire weapons after being in combat.
It wouldn't "screw up" the game, it would "change" the game, which is the whole point of a new edition. As snowblizz said they want you to buy a new book. They want you to realise "oh crap, my 1337 rhino list sucks now, I must buy a whole lot of infantry/fliers/bikes/whatever to stay competitive". That's the point of an edition change.

Of course it is fake lol.
Shooting after combat yeah sure.
165 pages of playable rules which seems to be written in May 2011 and which includes references to the Necron Catacomb Command Barge which wasn't released until November argues that if it is a hoax it is a bloody convincing one. Sure, it may be a hoax, but saying that they would never change the game radically is not enough. A lot of people thought that they would never have random charges in WFB either.

Yeah, what he said.

I've read through some of it, but honestly I can't see anyone spending the amount of time needed to produce a book of this size or quality for a hoax. Not saying it can't be done, or that random interwebz people don't have that kind of free time and dedication, but it seems unlikely.

As to the assult then shoot v. shoot then assault, I havent' got to play it yet, but it seems to work from the people I've talked to. Big difference seems to be that it's the whole combat, not just the move, that comes before shooting. Imagine a group of bowmen who could Charge into a Rat Dart, elimiate it, then let arrows fly on the clan rats behind it. Much more effective than the guys who shoot the Rat Dart, then run into it (or who run into it, loose thier shooty attack, then wipe it).

The flip side seems to be that there's like 30 new rules for HOW you shoot, how often, at what, etc. I'm told it's easy once you use it, but the sight makes my head spin.

As for which Codexi will be in the new Starter set, there were FAQs with the Playtest PDF, and several factions were notibly missing (Sisters of Battle, Black Templar, and Tau are the three I recall) considering the size of the rules overhaul, lack of FAQ would indicate Codex book at or around release date, as you'd be more unplaable than Black Tempars currently are without one.

For the record, it would not be the first time an (un)intentional pre-book ruleset was leaked for 40k.
I had the full 40K Ork Codex in PDF over a month before the codex was released. There were a couple of giant Xs where pictures were going to go later, but otherwise identical to the eventual release. There is most definitely precedent for this kind of thing.

Anyway, I am hopeful for new 40K, particularly new Tau. It would substantially increase the odds of me selling my Tau army for a good price. B)

Well from what I have read the new/leaked 40k is very different from the one we currently have. It looks like an improvement and I'm looking forward to playing it. :)

Unless GW releases a midget version of the Space Marines I don't think squats will ever be back.

Demiurg are rumoured to be making an appearance as a Tau xenos auxiliary... but I wouldn't put too much faith in that rumour ^^

So I was talking to a flgs shop owner over a game of 40K last night (I got beat, badly, again) and he said that there was a hoax codex preview released a few months back with this level of detail and about the same quality level. Anyone recall this?

Ouch, seems like I'll have to look up these rules. If my opponent can make reactions (stand and shoot) my orks will be toast. But most likely something else will be in place to balance that out. I'm more interested in them fixing the broken vehicle rules, as is they are retarded.

The Defensive fire reaction is whats called a Support action.

Things (like being pinned) can stop you from preforming these actions.

Also, Assault then Shoot thing is something you have to declare. As in, you have to say "I'm going to wipe that unit in one round of combat then fire." If you fail to wipe the unit, theres probably a penelty.

I'm not good at absorbing in rules or how an army plays from a pdf, so there's likely a bunch of things I'm forgetting.

SO here's a link (to rumors not to the rules)

6th Ed is Real, and it's Not

In brief, these were apparently what happened when the designers were set loose no holds bared, nothing off the table. This then went to play testers who said fun, but here's the abuse.

They've largely been scrapped / over-hauled to make a 'fair' system. Read the article for specifics.

It's not shooting afterwards that's a big iff for me, it's shooting before. Killing off a unit or two (i mostly play against MEQ) can help me alot when charging. But all in all it doesn't hinge on one simple rule but the effects of all of them combined.

Trying to find the damn rules now with no luck :p But, as a fresh 40k player, what happens to the armies? do they get errata to streamline their rules with the new edition?

It never was going to.
Only a fool of a tuck would believe it was!
GW likes to change things around but we have NEVER seen the turn sequence changed.
