well chaps, not to long ago (about a month ago)i invested in a rather large skaven army (woot). however my very eager tourney loving German daemon playing friend has signed us both up for a tournament that is now only a few days away (i had about 3 weeks notice). so i handed the following army list in last weekend, so i cant change anything about it , however i would like you guys to rip it to pieces and tell me what i should be looking out for in this tourney that will rip me to shreds. glaring weakness's, and the like.keeping in mind i have only had 3 (proper) fantasy games in my life so far, all against these daemons, and although i feel like i've picked the game up somewhat quickly (therefore not too much hindrance to any opponents i will have), i know i have a hell of a lot to learn about skaven tactics and whatnot. so without any further stalling..... Lords Grey seer1Condenser Earthing rod 285 Well the first thing I will say is that you can only have one condenser in the army. Second, lose the Warplock engineer with the dispel scroll and give it to the GS. (the dispel scroll) And lose the condenser off the GS.Earthing rod is fine. though I do like to put a 4+ on the GS myself Heroes Warlock engineer1level 1 , Condenser , Dispel Scroll 110 Like I said lose him Warlock engineer1level 1, Condenser, doom rocket 115 he is good Battle Standard Bearer, Skavenbrew, Shield 122 So common mistake. Your bsb is by far the most inmportant thing in the army next to your general. they should both be put in a unit of about 25 clan rats and kept behind the army for the leadership and reroll. If you want to take a skaven brew a naked warplock engineer will do just fine. and cheaper. Core Slaves20 champion, musician 46 This could work well for the bunker, I'm of the mind that if your general gets in combat you've done something very wrong, butlose the champion. he sucks. Slaves40 Shields 100 Slaves 40 Shields 100 Okay, my least favourite explination time. Sheilds on slave. No. no no no. lets math hammer this if you please. Say for example that your slave unit takes ten wounds in combat. with t=he parry save you will save about 2.?????. so on average about two. that in this case cost you 20 points. twenty point save you 6 points worth of models. Why do that when you could instead take 10 more slaves. that equals to about a whole nother turn of steadfast. Because the longer your steadfast the more time you have to manuever your hammer to smash em in the flank. and take a musician. Stormvermin40 Full Command 305 I don't care for stormvermin. they do not funtion well as a hammer unit but if you insist on takeing them then do it right and use the razor standard and the WLE with skaven brew and keep them in horde formation. they will want to hit the flanke of enemys you've tarpitted with s-laves. Clanrats40 shields , Full command 200 Clanrats40 shields , Full command 200 You don't need the champions. they are a waste of points for one more attack. Poison wind mortar1 (deployed with stormvermin) 65 Poison wind mortar1 (deployed with clanrats with Shields) 65 Warpfire thrower1 (deployed with clanrats with shields) 70 Giant Rat pack 6 23 Giant Rat pack 6 23 all good Special Gutter runners 5 Poison , slings 90 Gutter runners 5 Poison , slings 90 I prefer them to be at least seven. You can have only one of each magic item in your army, you can't have more than one condenser. And one character can only have one arcane item, which mean if your GS/WLE takes Condenser he cannot has any scroll or Earthing rod If this is your bunker, you don't need champion because you don't want this unit in close combat With only 20 slaves, they will break in first round of CC..... Give them musician for swift reform other is good That because some tournamnet cap at max 40 man per units...... 40 slaves W. slave last longer than nake 40 slaves lets math hammer, assume the slave unit take 10 S4 wounds per turn, and they made two parry saves every turn 40 Slave W. shield 50 Slave Turn1 8 die and 32 left 10 die and 40 left Turn2 8 die and 24 left 10 die and 30 left Turn3 8 die and 16 left 10 die and 20 left Turn4 8 die and 8 left 10 die and 10 left Turn4 8 die and 0 left 10 die and 0 left You can see, there is not much different between shield or naked....against S4 hit But when fighting against S3 hit, shield works better And also, after your hammer charged enemy in the flank, You don't want many many slaves get killed and then lose the combat...... Both shield and naked has slight advantage and dosen't really matter Personally I perfer Shield because it is cheaper in term of $$ We take champion not for the extra attack, We want our champion in challenge with enemy fighty mighty character and die 10 times or 20 times If he get killed 3 times in challenge, you earn the point back already At least this is fun and cost only 8 pts Edited by Hong, 11th January 2012 - 02:55 PM.

Fenris. Shields on slaves are a very viable option, even with math hammer. Shields give slaves a 6parry and a 6armor. Against anything strength 3, the shield is better tan additional model, anything higher and more bodies goes. It depends on the player and what yo anticipate facing. I personally run shields. On 50 man units no less. Thats a choice I make. But dont flat out say there bad without giving the full argument. |
