bsb is always worth it. personally at that points level i wouldnt spend that much on your warplock engineer dont get me wrong i use to tool up my charictors ll the time but often found they under preformed so decided to keep them simple and have to say its working better for me.

i may be wrong in my approach but i tend to use small army lists that will easily fit into my main army. i have a skryre army list that forms the core of a lot of my armies

See it like this...at lvl 1 you get one chance of taking a spell. And thus he knows he only has to dispell one single spell. For the same amount of points, you can get a lvl 2 warlock engineer and even get some points to spare. A lvl 2 warlock engineer can divide his dices over 2 spells , which makes it a bit harder for your opponent to decide what spell he will dispell and how many dispeldices he wants to use for it. Personally, I wouldnt overfill my warlock engineer.

At 500 points, your opponent doesnt get that much to hit back at you. so 30 clanrats would do more then fine. The poisoned wind mortar is indeed a good choice, except against bigger base armies (ogres for example). For those I would prefer a WLC instead.(you could use the remaining 25 points of your warlock engineer to upgrade your pwm to a WLC)

Wonderfull. allthough...I would try to squeeze in some shields here. You can do that if you drop 9 clanrats from the clanrat unit.

This is the unit I would put my WLE in. Keep this unit out of combat and well protected by your two other units. And you'll do pretty fine. If however you would like to opt for a BSB then I would trade in this unit for the BSB and put the WLE in the clanrat unit along with the BSB.

Yes.



The trick is to keep your PWM and Warlock engineer out of close combat for as long as possible. You use your slaves to catch up any unit he is throwing at you. Usually players have 1 hard hitting unit and 1 softer, but larger unit. And most of the time something to shoot with, if of course their army has that.
The biggest thread at 500 points is magic. If you know that there are spells out there who are able to dish 25+ casualties in one single glance... then you know its wise to invest in something able to withold that magic. We are lucky enough to be able to hold a lvl 2 warlock engineer for only so many points.
The shooting phase seems like a big thread, but most of the time isnt really that big a deal. Your own PWM for example is a very good weapon, but it'll explode 1/6th of the time. And then there is about 50 percent chance of a scatter and only about 70 percent chance of hitting. Thats why I personally would use a 5team gutter runner unit. They seem like a lot of fun and they are fast enough to keep them in the opponents flanks. Especially at 500 points (and a large table) this is a lot of fun.
The close combat phase is unimportant to you. What you are basically trying to do here is to stall time for your wizard and shooting teams to take out as much as they can before your Clanrats have to start doing any work themselves.

But heck...what works for one person, sometimes doesnt work for anyone else. Otherwise, we'd all be driving a Prius...

I absolutely disagree with the shields thing. If you spend the 15 points on the slaves for shields and you take ten wounds the shields will on average save 20 point something slaves and you will still lose combat. 15 points saved you 4 points with no benefit. better to take the 7 extra slaves thats a whole new rank to keep you stead fast longer

Thats the eternal shields- no shields discussion... Its basically the same matter, you loose about the same percentage of models for the same points. But an armour save of 6 AND a parry save in close combat, does grant you a slight advantage.
