Warlord – 4 + ward save BSB – shield, Storm Banner Warlock – (Level 1) condenser , Doom Rocket Warlock – Brass Orb 40 Slaves (musician) 40 Slaves (musician) 20 Clan rats (full command) shields (bunker) 40 Clan rats (full command) shields PWM 40 Clan rats (full command) shields PWM Rat Dart Rat Dart 6 Gutter Runners – slings and poison 6 Gutter Runners – slings and poison Warp Lightning Cannon Warp Lightning Cannon Doom Wheel Hell Pit Abomination EDIT: Here is the updated list with a lot less magic. I still have to crunch the numbers but I think this will fit in under 2000 points. I could drop the rat darts and one WLC to fit in a smallish flanking unit of stormvermin but I have my doubts on that. Edit 2 Crap. I have too many points in rare. Ugh... 2000 point list against Dwarves again The last game I had against the Dwarves did not go great. He had a rune lord (rune of balance and spell breaking), 4 war machines, 2 units of warriors, a unit of hammerers, and a unit of long beards. He basically shut my magic down and took me down in combat because I was too aggressive. I almost don’t want to bother taking magic but I don’t know what else to use instead. He did a killer job of shutting down my magic last game with that build. Maybe it would be better to take more shooting and drop the storm banner. I could also replace the seer with a warlord. I’m also debating finding the points to turn the two units of 40 clan rats into 3 units of 30. |

I would drop one warlock engineer. For the rest your list looks pretty good. I think the flaw lies more in the way you deploy. Next time take a camera with you and take a pic of the set up of both your and his army. Also... I imagine you put the wle's in the slave units, and the grey seer in the clanrat unit and the bsb in the bunker unit. I dont know IF you make this mistake, but its something I did in the beginning... i counted 40 clanrats while, with my chieftain in it, I only had 39. Sounds unimportant, but it would give you an additional 13 points to work with. (but again...I dont know if you make that mistake. I just assume you do, because you use numbers of 40 instead of 39) I hope you use the HPA against his warrior units or long beards? And the doomwheel as well? And use the WLC for the battle machines. I personally would not use hordes. You want to keep your opponents units busy , while the doomwheel and HPA do their job. And one final afterthought... (just a thought)... dwarves dont use magic. they hate it. And one of the main reasons we use grey seers is because of their +4 to dispel and cast. Your opponent seems to have put a lot of points in dispelling your spells. And you put a lot of points into casting. (over 400 points...) If you would do some kind of martial art, then the first thing you'd learn is not to be there where the punch will land. His big punch lies in the ability to dispel whatever you throw at him with those 400 points. My advice to you would be to let him believe that you'll work heavy on the magic so that he'll invest heavy on the dispelling. And then NOT to use any magic at all (or maybe just a lvl 2 warlock engineer or something...) and instead use it for other stuff. An extra hammer unit for example. But then again, thats just me thinking out loud. |

I think the OP is well-aware that magic isn't his best option. Still, you don't want to give up on the magic phase entirely. I don't see the HPA being all that useful versus Dwarves, to be honest. I'd prolly consider subbing him out for an extra cannon or two, but such a tactic will be risky given that the Dwarven player could simply out-turtle you. However, shooting seems a good option given that you don't want to be forced into close combat only to get chewed up. Kite those little stunties and keep his machines busy with the gutter runners! I'd recommend investing in a Doomrocket for one of your engineers, that's a clear omission for such a list versus such an opponent. Maybe grab a Brass Orb too if you insist on running two WEs. |

You should put your gutter runners in units of 6 also if in your last game you failed to cast anything then magic is not a good idea. As said earlier let him put points into stopping magic and then take none |

This list is a bit of a rough draft but I usually will drop a clan rat from a 40 unit if I stick a character in there. Usually I have been keeping my Seer (general) and BSB in the small clan rat bunker. I keep them out of danger and they seem to do a nice job maintaining a leadership bubble. I agree that my deployment is usually a problem. I also play the army aggressively which doesn’t work at all (in my experience). I am toying with the idea of a very magic light list considering how easy it is for dwarf general to shut down my magic phase. I’m just not sure it will even help. Sitting back and shooting and taking away magic almost turns me into a crappy version of a dwarf army. I just sucks to have 400 points in magic, yet do next to nothing. Doom Rocket and Brass Orb are both good ideas. I agree that the Abomination is very dicey against dwarf cannons but I just don’t know what other hard unit to replace it with. The stormvermin with skaven brew did well but they are a lot of points. Plague monks seem just about useless against dwarfs with toughness 4 and decent armor. I figured the Abomination could either draw some fire for a few turns or get lucky and smash a unit. I also do run the gutter runners in units of six. I have no idea why I always write five. I will post an updated list soon with some of these suggestions. Thanks to everyone! |
