UE Painting Competition 2012
Category Reference List

This is the list of all the painting competition categories for the year of 2012, so if you want to check ahead to see how much time you'd need to get something painted up, here it is. ^_^

We had a great year in 2011, with quality being abundant. However quantity was sadly lacking, so it would be nice to get more entries in 2012. For this reason we have tried to make some interesting new categories! ;)

Here is a link to the 2010 reference list! ;)

We want all entries to be new models, made especialy for the painting competitions.
We may even be asking for people to give us progress pictures of the models as they are being made.

We will be releasing updated rules with the new entry thread, which will be coming soon! ;)

Doesn't mean you can't enter all the others, or indeed make yourself a new Warlord model on a different mount. ;)
If you want some inspiration, look at the latest painting competition winner for inspiration. It's unorthodox, and absolutely awesome! :)

Everyone should appreciate and participate in these revamped categories, Scarfester and Olorin put a lot of work into brainstorming them and coming up with requirements for each!

Hay,

is there a size restriction for the skaven objective, also when is
the latest you can enter? can you use GW modles and will creativity
be given marks or is it just the painting thats scored? is there a theme
or is it anything to do with skaven, also can you use parts from other
armys as well (i.e. scenery and weapons from empire kits, chaos kits, elf kits i.e)?
:KA-BOOM: :KA-BOOM: :KA-BOOM:

sorry for the questions :( , just really interested in the catagory (even got a idea too :D)

Will, there are open contests everywhere! Besides, Scarfester and I aren't done: we're working on something aside from the regular contests, something extra special.

Ratzilla, each contest will have updated rules published before it starts. As for The Skaven Objective, Scarfester and I haven't discussed size, but normally objective markers tend to include converted models, which could be from any army (or indeed, manufacturer); often, people turn a hated enemy's possessions or models into an objective. Think, for example, of the Captured Dwarf objective marker included in The Battle for Skull Pass (that was the Warhammer 7th edition box set, for those of you who are new to the game).

Bear in mind that Scarfester and I are not scoring anything or giving marks. For us, it's binary: either a submission fits within the rules, and we accept it, or it doesn't fit within the rules (or the image is unacceptable, or the category slots have all been filled), and we reject it. We don't give bonus points for originality, or determine whether technical skill is more or less important than creativity: that's for the voters to decide. We ask UnderEmpire members to vote for the submission which they consider to be the best. Members of the Council, including those of us running the Hobby Tunnels, only get one vote each, just the same as everyone else!

I'm really glad these categories are inspiring some enthusiasm in the ranks. ^_^

Keep posted guys for a new event release. As Olorin says, it's something special.
There will be more regular weekly painting challenges as well, to keep up the motivation. ;)

Hopefully you don't mind if i ask a question here!

Next months challenge is a horde of at least 40 models, and must be configured legally. Simply meaning 10 wide and at least 4 deep?

I still have tons of models to paint so I am pretty sure I want to enter this one, because if nothing else it can't hurt to try.

With regular infantry, a horde formation is at least 10 wide, and you need to have at least 40 models for this category, so 10 wide by 4 deep is a good thing to aim for, though other configurations (say, 14 columns wide and only 3 rows deep) would also be legal.

Being game-legal is one of the requirements, so, for instance, you can't have a banner in a unit of Skavenslaves. But as long as it's a legal horde of at least 40 models, fully painted and based, it can be entered.
