I'm actually not a filler person, and I tend to think that the only appropriate place for Rat Ogres is in a unit of Rat Ogres--or on a shelf: they absolutely require green stuff work to look decent, but they can be very impressive if they're well-modeled and painted. But including Rat Ogres as fillers is potentially confusing to an opponent no matter how carefully you explain it to him: a unit should be instantly recognizable for what it is, with no explanations necessary. I'm willing to make an exception when a filler unit is exceptionally well-done, but I'd say that 99% of the time, the only really appropriate filler for a unit of Skavenslaves is other Skavenslaves. But as far as the idea of putting a Hell Pit Abomination into your army goes, that I endorse. (And don't forget the Warpstone Spikes.) |

I find that a giant unit of rats tends to look alot better with a 4 or 6 man filler but thats just me |

I find that a chessboard looks better with an arrangement of fruit on it, maybe some grapes hanging off, a little bit of soft cheese.... The problem is that it doesn't work very well if you want to play chess. A mixed unit may look good aesthetically, but if I'm playing a game, I want to be able to see, at a glance, what kind of model I'm facing and how many of them there are. If I make my opponent calculate, "Well, that's really four Clanrats for every Rat Ogre, and there's one there, and there, and...." I'm distracting him unfairly, in a way that's not exactly sportsmanlike. Dazzle and distract him with the brilliance of your painting, by all means: that's legal and acceptable. But my feeling is that usually, if you're going to have to explain to your opponent that one thing counts as something else, you probably shouldn't be doing it. |

Yeah, I wanted to see if sqweel put out at 1000 points. But seems the rares are the way to go, your units are way to small again now. |
