Is 1000 pts too small?

Hey guys, sorry that it's been a while since I've posted. I'm trying to do this going to college in a new town thing and it's making keeping up with warhammer a lot harder than I would like. Good news is I picked up a doomwheel, converted some globadiers, and am working on scratch building a warp lightning cannon of sorts while on fall break.

I was brain storming an army list to go along with these new acquisitions and what I already had and am a little stumped.

I mainly play against my friend (who plays Bretonnia) but would love some overall criticism.

I'm thinking I want to run something like this at 1000 points, but I could pony up and field a few more units and go to 1500 too:

Warlock = 130
Level 1
Warp energy condenser
Warplock musket
Doomrocket

Chieftan = 70
Bsb

slaves x 40 = 80
musician
slaves x 40 = 80
musician

clan rats x30 = 197
plague wind mortar
musician
standard bearer

clan rats x30 = 197
plague wind mortar
musician
standard bearer

doomwheel 150

warp lightning cannon 90

Does that look viable for 1000 points?

Also in all honesty my friend has thrashed me twice with Bretonnians (I suppose the three plus years of experience he has on me might have something to do with it...) so I'd really like to put up a solid fight this time.

I also considered briefly throwing in a grey seer, but it seemed like entirely too many points for what it was worth.
myself: "I want it to be disgusting looking"
my friend: "the mark of a good skaven player, saying that he wants his army to be disgusting to look at"
myself: "it will be beautiful"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Myself: "I want to shoot at your knights"
Bretonnian player: "But you'll hit more of your own men"
Myself: "...but I'll hit you too. I don't see a problem here"

While I can agree with points of your guide I really do not think you should spam every list with your guide link!

It's not a bad start but I would get rid of the musket.

Also be careful of lvl4s sneaked into 1k lists.

And I would definitely want a dispel scroll in there.

I'm inclined to agree; it's neither cynical, nor constructive. It's elitist.

I would probably cut something out for something more hammer-y. Against Brettonians, you don't have an awful lot of heavy hitters to work around their high saves. May I suggest a naked Warlock Engineer with the Brass Orb or a Poison Wind Mortar?

I like your list for 1000 points. You need a dispel scroll, to stop some of the unit killer spells in the game. Other than that, nice list.

Current Fantasy Armies:
Dark Elves
Empire
Skaven

well i can either retype everything (which is cynical and constructive) i say in it or i can post a link, at 2 am being elitist not a hard choice ;)

/now that im awake however, your list is not really bad, drop the musket as suggested but for all other purposes it should be doing fine. personally id like to know what your bretonnian player runs or more importantly what hes doing to make you lose. im not sure if thats more about tactics or not (i guess if kept very specifically between you and your opponent its not a big deal to keep it here)

if your going to redesign this list to beat bretonnians specifically. you'll need more slaves, as a bretonnian player i can tell you our worst nightmare is trying to fight our way through huge chunks of slaves. taking slaves will need youll need a warlord or grey sear as your general (at these points you could do a warlord or chieftain or keep the warlock but need the bsb) youll need lots of armor ignoring things (hell you may even want censers) such as wind mortars, wind globes, (while i dont recommend them) jezzails could be an alright option (so long as you only fight bretonnians. ) you could try and find ways to either include a grey seer or a plague priest (plague spells are FAR better than ruin against bretonnia) and similar things.

thanks, the more I think about it the more I'm wondering why i took the musket to begin with. I'll try to work on getting that dispell scroll.

It is mostly tactical, as I've played something like 3 games and he's played for 3 years, so I'm trying to catch up on the learning curve.

He usually just loads us on the knights and packs them down with everything he can get and grinds through my army before I can shoot him apart. Obviously I can't stand and fight (for the most part). Also up until now I've been fielding more special units and less rare units.

I really appreciate the support, sorry if I seemed dumb or inexperienced. The later is true, the former is questionable

I'd suggest adding globadiers. Probably have them replace one of the mortars. Should be a little more reliable when the knights get bogged down against your slaves. Other than that and the previously mentioned musket, it looks good to me.
As it turns out, no, I don't love the smell of warpfire in the morning.

actually this is one of the few instances where i will say jezzails trump globes. globes will have that extra randomize roll whereas jezzails are still just roll to hit roll to wound.

Of course, you get two globes for every jezzail, and the globes still work fine if the brets use Lore of Life to get t7 knights -- difficult in 1k, but not impossible. Jezzails also grant the brets the better version of their ward save -- 5+ rather than 6+. Really, it probably comes down to whether or not Life is being a pain.
