Hello again, It has been a while since I have actively participated around here, but I'm back. I am looking to head to a tournament in January (debating Shiloh Slaughter or Coastal Assault) and both are conveniently 2,500pts. Here is the list I wrote up. LORD Grey Seer w/ Dispel Scroll & Foul Pendant Warlord w/ Warlitter, Dragon Helm, Talisman of Preservation, & Halberd HERO Chieftain w/ BSB, Shield, & Storm Banner Chieftain w/ Terrifying Mask of EEEE, Dragon Bane Gem, Halberd Warlock Engineer w/ Doom Rocket Warlock Engineer w/ Lvl 1, & Warp-Energy Condenser Warlock Engineer w/ Obsidian Lodestone & Ironcurse Icon CORE 47 Clanrats w/ Full Command (Warlord here) 34 Clanrats w/ Full Command (Seer, BSB, and Lodestone here) 20 Clanrats w/ Standard & Musician (Lvl 1 here) 80 Slave brick in horde w/ Musician (Doomrocket here) 35 Stormvermin w/ Full Command & Banner of Eternal Flame (Mask of Eeee! Chief here) 5 Giant Rats w/ 1 Packmaster 5 Giant Rats w/ 1 Packmaster 5 Giant Rats w/ 1 Packmaster SPECIAL 5 Gutter Runners w/ Slings & Poison 5 Gutter Runners w/ Slings & Poison RARE Warp Lighting Cannon Warp Lighting Cannon Hell Pit Abomination w/ Spikes TOTAL- 2,499.5 Luckily my gaming area is more competitive in nature so having a "Tourney List" for regular play is fine. I incorporated a few things from my Ard boyz list that worked out well and then mixed in some other stuff I thought was interesting. I am hosting a mini-tournament at my house on the 19th so will do some field testing with the somewhat finalized list. What are the Under-Empire's thoughts? |

Come to Dallas in February and play in Lonewolf X (also a 2500 tournament) http://www.lonewolfgt.com/ Aside from that, the list looks pretty solid. I'd be worried about the unit of 20 clan rats, but I have a feeling you'll be using it as a back bencher type of unit, not really something for the front lines. In general, I'm not fond of putting halbreds on Skaven characters, just because it takes 2 hands to wield (you miss out on chance to use that other hand for protection), I think you're better off with a cheap/better weapon and a shield to up his damage output and increase his survivability a bit more. Strong showing rares, if you start rolling hot with them, it probably wont matter what the rest of your army does. --Cap |

Thanks for the quick responses. The unit of 20 if for the Tower mission which we will still play if we roll it up. My plan for that unit and attached warlock is to help protect a flank as it is a block unit and still be able to reach out and Zapp those annoying units in the magic phase. I want to talk with the organizers about the missions but I have found most don't use the tower mission. If that is the case I will most likely drop the warlock for a chieftain and beef up the unit. As far the Halberds go I found I really like Str 5 on the characters and that is the cheapest way to get there. I originally had the sword of Strength on the warlord but dropped it because of cost. I just plan on my characters dying at some point regardless so tend to try and max damage. Based on your recent tourney experience what would you change? Or was the shields the major thing? I would love to make it out Cap, but the drive is what kills it. I am debating heading to Shiloh for the same reason when I have a 4 round tourney the same day only 5hrs away...and on the beach. The Tower mission hasn't been used in any Texas GTs that I know of, it's too easy to corrupt. It's a fun scenario for off games but doesn't fit well into the competitive environment because some armies can just take over in turn 1.
Better killing weapons than +1 strength and the shield was the major advantage; having a 2+ armor makes them that much more survivable and a lot of the non powered out Skaven lists tend to play to incredibly close margins so keeping a hero alive here other might actually save you in the end. Str5 is not as good as it used to be (in 6th edition you could lay waste with a S5 character), with as much protection people can pull out now, S6 is really the new "bee's knees" in my experiences (for obvious reasons) it wounds high tougness more aptly, and hurts armor saves more. My Warlord is the one model on the board that I genuinely need to process kills, and given that most enemy characters run straight at ours (because the assume skaven characters are easy to kill) making him a little more damaging has made great leaps for me in winning combats over time. I usually don't need him against only rank and file, I put him in there for leadership control and as enemy character-insurance. A Halbred is the cost effective way to go, no doubt, but if I were making a character(s) to help out with combats, I would invest a little more in him/ them. That's just me, and the needs I've found in my play though; a lot fo the things/ builds you're using in your list above are present in my list (very similar warlord, similar MR3 engineer, etc ). --Cap |
